Mythical Spell - Blizzard -- How does this work?
Regarding the Mythical Spell, Blizzard, how does this really work?
1.) It seems that I cannot cast the spell unless I am already in combat. Attempting to cast it when not in combat does nothing.

2.) When it actually does work during a fight it simply does self damage to me, so much that I die before I can even get out of the damage radius. The only way I have successfully cast this and actually lived to see the fight through was taking a resist frost damage potion prior to using it while in combat.

Is this a bug or what am I missing here? Seems like an utterly useless spell which is very disappointing seeing as how is is "mythical tier" spell.

The spell is cast over the point of your characters current position and not over the enemies. I don't intentionally run into mobs to play terrorist.

Dont forget about wards. You can cast it, switch to a strong ward, and run out with your shield up.

...I assume, I haven't gotten high enough skill to use Blizzard yet.

Right, I guess I was just wondering if it were possible to use Blizzard without having to utilize magic from a school I don't use and have not spec'd into. But regardless, wards sound like a viable alternative if nothing else works.

Often in fantasy magic is a representation of a force of nature (a literal blizzard in this case) and as such is a reckless, double-edged sword.

It's not a matter of function, at least. I'm assuming it works the way the devs want it to.

Very true, however would it not make sense to then have each of the other mythical spells (at least the elemental ones) such as Thunderclap or Cannonade also have the double-edged sword aspect? Just a thought and thank you for your suggestion on that matter!

What's fun is that the game is truly still in flux and details are being tweaked with every patch.

I totally agree, that all three elemental Mystic Spells should be double-edged or just awesome. One or the other.

However the devs do often encourage and reward skill synergy so maybe thinking around the problem and how to take advantage of Blizzard is a good option? Say, like... a sneaky type with silent casting walks into a roomful of badguys, sets off Blizzard, wards up and runs to the edge of the storm.

Maybe it's a dig at the company Blizzard... ;)
