how do i use companions?

so other than phasmalism stuff and random quests. how do i get followers and companions? id love to actually go adventuring with the companions in the game other than my mute spirit guys.

You don't. There are some quests where one of the story NPCs comes with you, but the majority of the game is played alone.

(I *always* have followers in any game where I can, but honestly I love playing Enderal partly because it's so different from my usual way of playing games like this.)
