Waiting for other players...

Every time I try to play with a friend, we have to wait like 5-10 mins in order to start a match... It keeps saying: "Waiting for other players" and my friend gets stucked in loading screen.
It happens since an update came out. Before that, we didn't experience that issue...
Please help!

I also had this problem. I resolved it by enabling UPnP in my modem configuration. Otherwise see port forwarding.
This page explains which ports to forward, https://portforward.com/age-of-empires-iii-definitive-edition/
and also this page [support.microsoft.com] but it is for AOE III (2007) but maybe it works.

So I checked my router config and uPnP is enabled... I think AoEIII DE doesn't allow uPnP because I have another compatible game and my router automatically had added to my router's uPnP list and AoEIII DE isn't recognized...
So then I tried to add those ports (firewall and router) and still nothing...

Please help!

It's starting fast now. My friend added the .exe file and the folder to whitelist and now it works! He whitelisted those .exe and the whole folder on Malwarebytes. It seems MW was causing this issue in our case.

Hi so i need to whitelist the exe and the whole folder? Avast wont let me whitelist the whole folder for some reason. This happens to me aswell. It takes 10 mins to load a game

My friend added this file (AoE3DE_s.exe) and the whole folder, but hey, there's an option on Avast to add a folder as a exception. Try the "Add advanced exception" option:

Just uninstall Avast and use Windows Defender instead.

incase whitelisting does not work, add firewall exceptions to both the 2 exe files, my rig had exceptions to the 2 files when it came to data coming through, but not going out, long loading times still kept happening because of that, but not anymore when i added outgoing exceptions to the 2 exe files

Thank you very much. I will give it a try. Im really dissapointed with the developers. The games has so many problems for a lot of people after so much time since release. I also have to watch the whole intro every time i open the game cause if i hit esc to skip it, it will freeze forever. And some of my friends get random disconnects from time to time. Kinda sad cause this game had a lot of potential. But thanks for the fix.
