How were they teasing you for a year? They dropped promo graphics along with the announcement during that AoE event.
Did they publish anything? If not, how were they teasing you?
Nobody knows the real reasons behind the curtains. Why are you saying 'they' dropped it as if they're an independent studio and make any decisions of this type?
Are you implying developers got bored and decided to not have more work?
'Screw the devs' because a decision was made to not make this DLC? What do game developers have to do with anything? You sound extremely immature and eager to point fingers without knowing anything about the reasoning behind that decision.
And they didn't 'pull the plug'- in the same post, it's clearly stated game is being maintained as it was yesterday.
Email Xbox Game Studios and tell them to order developers to create and share all tools and code for the game.
If you have a bunch of money laying around- donate it to fund more DLCs. It's that simple.
According to the player count numbers being more than 5k and its current Steam reviews AoE III: DE is not "dead". Not even close and a game that stops making dlc permanently is not necessarily dead. The original AoE III is closer to being dead than AoE III: DE because its multiplayer was permanently shut down recently. AoE: DE is also closer to being dead than AoE III: DE, because less people currently play that game than this game. At only 1k players currently AoM: Extended is a lot closer to being dead than AoE III: DE and even AoM: Retold at 3k players currently has less people playing that game than AoE III: DE.
I think it is best described as "its complicated". There are various different factors that could potentially be taken into an account such as Microsoft and World's Edge are too woke to continue making dlc for this game because they do not like this game's time period that historically has a lot to do with colonialism, big and complex tech trees make it harder to add new civs, each new civ is required to have a unique leader personality for skirmishes, revolutionary civs also make it harder to add officially new civs, AoE II: DE going in a different directions that is expected to add more Chronicles civs in the future, potential conflict with AoM: Retold and AoE IV, and etc...
At least AoE III: DE still has a considerably large cult following even if it will not make anymore dlc. AoE III: DE not making anymore dlc does not necessarily mean that people have to stop playing it, but it does mean that Microsoft and World's Edge more specifically seem to have issues with remaining committed to keeping this game alive contrary to the numbers of people who still play this game that disagree with the direction this game is heading towards because of this recent decision made by Microsoft and World's Edge. I have noticed various different people mentioning they still enjoy playing AoE III: DE, because they do not know of any other game like this game.
