Home City card progression gone? WHY
I'm waiting for the game to download trying to find out if they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up.

In the OG version you start at level 1 with each civ, and then as you play you gain xp and can unlock the cards for your home city.

Has this feature been changed or removed?

Thanks

Edit: Yea they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ us. Leveling up and unlocking stuff is the most addicting part of any game WHY THE ♥♥♥♥ did they remove that?????

Removed. All cards are instant unlocked at level 1.

Welcome to the club of people who think this is a deal breaker.

If it's to make multiplayer more fair just have an optional game mode where everything is unlocked. Or make it just unlocked for PvP. Or ANYTHING other than just removing it altogether

Yeah, I'm requesting a refund because of it, terrible choice made. Apparently we have a bunch of community beta testers to thank for the decision.

When I did a closed beta event for a game, the company made sure to include a wide variety of playstyles and opinions in order to see a lot of different angles.

My guess is the closed beta testers for this game featured mostly (or all) hardcore PvPer's.

I don't agree with the decision (or at least think they should have added the option for players to choose which style to go with, instant unlock or "classic"), but I don't fault the company for doing what they thought their community wanted.

I'm hoping they see that it isn't a small percentage of paying customers that feel this way since the reviews are bombing with many saying the same about the gutting of the leveling system.

My suggestion to the company would be to make Multiplayer ranked matchups full card unlocks. For custom matchup games, multiplayer co-op, or single--player skirmish, allow the player(s) to choose between classic mode or full card unlocks.

I'm surprised by your reaction. The card progression system was cool and new at the time, but it brought some serious problems. It really had to go, and I'm glad.

Way back on time, I remember I had to play several comp stomps to level up my HC to a competitive state, and that was really, really ridiculous. We had to build several plantations first, and only when we get maximum EXP we allowed the AI to surrender.

I was main russia and dutch. Never touched the other civs because leveling everything up would be a incredible pain in the ass. And dude, there is no way in hell that I'd be up to play long games just to grind for exp, now that I'm old and have limited time to spend.

I'm honestly baffled that so many people are so upset about the removal of a mechanic that gave older players an advantage and discouraged trying out new civs.

It was the right move, I don't want to spend a 100 hours again unlocking all of this stuff again.

It's a good thing that pretty much everybody who wants the leveling system back universally agree's that it shouldn't be forced on people, in particular ranked PvP Matches. And that what we want is flexibility to have it our way, and allowing players like yourself to have it your way.

You ever play Starcraft 2? Multiplayer is what you would expect, where balance is key (in AoE 3 terms, that means all card unlocks). Co-Op features a leveling system, and it provides hundreds of hours entertainment. You have to level commanders 1-15, than there is the extended 1-90 mastery points, than there is the offering to re-level the commanders 1-15 again 3 more times in order to unlock some other fun mechanics.

AoE3 was like that for me too, and that was all taken away for a portion of the community who wanted it that way.

It's just too bad that many of the pro-instant unlock players aren't interested in hearing our side, and prefer us to just "shut up and deal with it." At least from the dozens of posts I've seen so far.

You still get points to customise your home city, The way it looks etc.

But i have to admit that leveling up to get cards was good and why i liked this game, i don't play multiplayer nor ever will so this is a single players opinion.

jesus christ who gives a frig if you have a disadvantage sometimes just play the game... unlocking stuff and improving over time is fun...

they could add an "everything unlocked" option for the nerds who feel they need to do hours of "comp stomps" grinding xp before they can play against anyone...

Only half the civ's are like this, the one's from the original game. There are no customization options for anything that was added in later expansions, or even the 2 new civ's added in this version.

Why can't you find solace in mechanical improvements and just getting more skilled?

I also think it should not be there. But I am single player only player. Like the campaign and all motivating tutorials with trophies.
Teutonic Knight Oct 15, 2020 @ 10:44pm
Yeah this was a bit disappointing but not a deal breaker for me. I totally get the problem of player balance and having to "invest" in a particular civ. When I played the original back in 2006-07 I only had high levels for a couple of civs.
