Tips on playing as the Maltese
What are their good at?

Any good cards I should use?

And what the general strategy feel like?

Looking more for broadstrokes views that build order and very specific stuff

I only play against AI, but I'm trying to improve to try ranked

I age cards: 3 settlers, carmelitan churches (more exp), german tongue
Personally, i use also card changing food for wood after reaching second age, thanks to this i quicly reach 1100-1300 wood
Next: Wignacourt. Choose resources and units on your own

They are good in defence, so your play should be defence playing. To raid somebody, build outposts, barracks and commanderies near his town, and attack him from this point. (rest i will write later :Caravel:)

The interesting second age card is with a hospitality- cheaper upgrades and faster aging up
Third age you should start with Victoriossa - settlers gets much cheaper. Souvereign order of Malta is also worth
I always use also: rockets, flame throwers, dignitaries, flintflock rockets, fire towers because all this stuff adds a lot of fun
I dont recommend cards adding hospitalers, advanced buildings, trip to Jerusalem. There is no time to use in game, in my opinion

German tongue is used by most of players, but rest of tongues use in your way, in your style of game. For me tongues are quate expensive and not always worth of it

For rushing: pikes and x-bows traditionally, but I rush very seldom
For common play: sentinels and order hussars (which are better than ordinary hussars, especcially in secong age). I never use pikemen (sentinels are decent vs cavalry), hospitalers in late game, crossbows in lack of gold

Fixed guns use while you are moving forward on map and trying establish outpost. Its disandvantage is, that it cost 6 population. Depots use in defence. Both are worth
About strategies: semi-FF > FF, FI
Compare strategies a few players and find the your own best way to play. Malta is so satisfying and is extreme boring-resistant (Deus-vulting and crusading theme, exterminations enemy's settlers with flame throwers xd < maybe it should be censored, making last stand stronghold are examples)

Watch a good game from a player and follow the build order, modify at your own risk and pleasure. After 100+ games you should be able to manipulate the civ as you want.
But it takes around 600 games against ALL civs in order to really do it proficiently.
600 because there are at least 3 ways to play a civ and you have 21 civs which makes 6(3) so 63*100 600+


That's the way to do it fast.
The game is too complex.
Start with that and play against any civ.

Anyway it depends all if you are playing offline or online.
I am talking of playing it online.

Offline it's like playing sim city, no offense.
For that the answer would be: put whawtever you want, you can play as you want with AI-

This said: I have seen Pikes xbow or also I have seen Sentinels Flamethrowers.
.. many people castle up. I don't really like that much.. I prefer aggression but yea.. u need to work home if you wanna fight outside.

U can also use the tunnels system which allows a sort of "teleport".. which is not teleport. There are many things.
