Game suddenly change its language to Chinese, and I cannot change it back to English

As I said, How to change the game's UI language. It's on Chinese and each time I click other language for it to change into, it just doesn't apply. Restarting also doesn't help. Please help.

What language is selected when you go to the game's properties window in Steam? Maybe that has something to do with it?



Otherwise, you can try changing the game settings from the UserProfile.xml
On Windows, it should be in your User folder, like C:\Users\-username-\Games\Age of Empires 3 DE\-some random numbers-\Users\

In it, search the file for "optionlanguage" (Including the quotes, otherwise you'll find other similarly named entries. But theres only one called "optionlanguage") and replace the number next to it.
Replacing it with 0 should make it English the next time you start it, 1 is French, 2 is German etc.

Maybe if it doesn't work to change in the game, it might work like this?

Thanks for reply. I did what you're suggested and the game still launched in chinese.
The "optionlanguage" option in UserProfile.xml is "0"
And the game's properties window in Steam said English.
Even the in-game menu says that it should display the game in English

Maybe there's something wrong with the localisation files. Have you tried verifying integrity of the game files yet?

What happens when you switch the language to something else entirely?

Do you have any mods actve? Maybe try whether it works with all deactivated.

If none of that can help, you could hope the devs see it or contact support in another way...

Finally after removing all the mod, the language changes back to normal English.
It's the mod that change the language setting.
