I couldn't help but notice that this scene in particular in bears a very striking similarity to the greedy jew merchant meme.
I'm not trying to start anything negative, it just struck me as odd since I would never expect something like this in a toho game.

But maybe I'm the idiot here for making this connection.

The more I think about it, the more it looks like this wasn't intentional and the devs didn't mean any harm.

Handrubbing is pretty commonly shown behavior for greedy merchants or store personnel, particularly when trying to suck up to the other party. Watch any anime where such a person appears and they will do that pose. Definitely was a thing before that meme was around.
