Conan Exiles - Public Beta Client

Testlive client being downloaded first
The Testive Client started downloading before the regular version, I am on a limited monthly ratio, no way I will dl both versions now, 70GB each.

So I found out when the Testive one was at 40GB downloaded, got sparse info on Reddit and other sites, and obviously I do not wish to be part of any test, I just want to play the game.

...so I’m stuck with that test version, at least for a month.

As far as I know, there is no efficient way to have STEAM ignore a download, I went in the properties and set to “Only update this game when I launch it”, and set it hidden in my library so I do not mis-click on it. If anyone knows how to permanently have the client to ignore a download, please let me know.

As for Steam, this has been reported already some time ago, and you have done nothing to correct the situation, have at least the standard version downloaded first and give clear information about the 2 packages, and indicate proper information regarding storage space: 140 GB downloading, 500 GB HDD space.

And why am I sent to this forum when I need support? I doubt users can modifiy the information...

I agree, When I bought it a while ago I wondered what it was... I don't want it, don't need it, don't care about it... Wish they gave me an option to download or not.

Same. Just bought the game, clicked Install, noticed it started with the test client. Didn't know if I needed it or not. After a while, I had the test client installed, only to find out, that I needed another 70gb download, to play the actual game.... great.

Who in their right mind thought it would be a good idea, to download a test client first (or at all), when installing the game right after a purchase? Surely logic would dictate, that most (if not all) would be more interested in the actual game client.

Anyone who wants this test client, is likely also able to find and install it manually (like opt-in for beta versions). Absolutely no need for this to be installed this way.

I've asked for a refund. Might be over the top reaction, but my god I can't stand sh*t like this.

I still have played about 80 hours already on this Testlive version...yeah, I like the game...but I have many issues, especially heavy stuttering, and many minor bugs with collisions and crafting, result of those alpha-beta patches. This should really not be the first pack to be downloaded, and as polledk mentions, it should only be an option.

Are you sure that there was no option? There is an opt-out beta setting as with any other game in your steam library:

Hello Narelle, are you with FunCom? You also answered few of my posts on their forums.

Anyway, to answer your question; sorry to tell you this, but you are out of the subject here. When we purchase the game here on Steam, there is no indication at all there is a beta version as well, and worse, the one that is first downloaded. I clicked on install and resumed whatever I was doing back then, only to find out about two hours later what was happening. That's the real issue here, people expect to have to download only 70GB, not 140GB, and surely are not informed they also are part of a "beta" immediately. And in my case, because of my monthly data caps, I had to wait weeks before downloading the standard version.

Steam should only push the standard (Live) version, and when it is installed, upon launch, offer the user the Testlive one, with clear indications what it does (and that extra 70GB). I now have downloaded the standard version, and let me tell you, it's a very different game, Testlive is a pain when it comes to performances.

Thank you, hopefully you could help in fixing this.

When I was on a limited data plan I actually stopped gaming on PC since ALL titles are digital only. Main reason I have such a large physical library of games on console (and I like having something I can sell, give away, or have my kids inherit). Stick with smaller indie titles would be my suggestion. Big AAA multiplayer, or very bloated AA multiplayer titles all take up 100+GB.

Glad I read this, I was at 40% of having the testlive downloaded when I saw I didn't need it nor by the sounds of it really even want it. Luckily I was able to just uninstall it and picked the normal CE to to start loading. Of course I lost a good chunk of time and have to start all over again. So maybe by this time Christmas night it will be ready to go.
just bought the game and it did the same thing described. started downloading the testlive before the actual game. I stopped it, downloaded the game, but the game will not launch, citing battle eye. i have downloaded battle eye, and it doesnt launch, I have uninstalled battle eye and launched game w/o it and it doesnt launch. assuming now that testlive is somehow connected to all of this, so approaching my data limit and installing it in hopes the game launches, if not, refunding. how you sell a game that doesnt launch?!?!?

OMG thank you for this test, I started with a few mods that I really wanted, and could not figoure out how they weren't installed. That's one of the best things about Steam, the mods install 99.9% of the time flawlessly. I didn't want to be a beta tester, there was no opt in or out option. Glad I read this, saved me getting to deep into the game on the test
