However, funcom will use the testlive to test new builds with actual players on the testlive servers, to smooth things out before they release it en masse to the regular game. For example, there may be new dungeons or balancing updates, or bug fixes on the testlive client. Once they know these are successful, they will be updated to the current game build.
I seem to have the singular option of using my preexisting characters when I launch. Is this the way it should be running?
