How does stealth work?

I couldn't find any information on how does stealth work. Also the game does not indicate anything at all related to that skill. Can someone explain?

This is true for other skills / effects, too. It would be nice to see that skills/effects a soldiere has in the game. Also it would be great to have a few explanations for every status, skill, effect. Another example: "absorbtion" on the armor. What does this?

I do not know the math behind stealth, but I can tell you it is possible to sneak up on an enemy from behind, especially at night.

Regarding damage mitigation by armor, I did see a post in Russian that claimed that each point of armor prevented one point of damage. However, I know for a fact that it is more complex than that because sometimes a squad member takes no damage when the math says he should take a couple of points of damage.

I would suggest that you carefully post your question in Russian, or have a Russian friend post it for you. The devs are responsive in Russian, and you would likely get an authoritative response.

Confirmed Ernesto is correct there is a dev rep on the channel, Vadevski. Apparently works weekdays only, based in Moscow.
