If you dont have friends to play with, then avoid it. Why? Most of activities are annoying playing alone. The matchmaking is almost dead.
Said tedious play modes can not be really skipped though if you want to get the maximum performance from your valorplate and can be draining chores at times.
I've bought the game for € 13,- which i believe is a fair price for a product like this in it's current state, i wouldn't have paid more than € 15,- for this.
Also forget to mention that this game has the obnoxious tendency to buffer unwanted input or generate ghost inputs what can lead your character performing unwanted moves.
But the absolute worst i found that sometimes if you want to switch weapons for polarization or any other big skill for that matter does not respond even when you hammer the button, it just won't come out which can lead to you being knocked around or killed.
I've had a few occasions where enemies were probably stuck under the floor or something which led to me not being to able to finish the challenge and the timer ran out, but even worse you can't even progress anymore and have to reset the challenge.
Also my character got stuck between the wall and a boss a few times which made my character clip into the wall and get stuck.
Weapon play is good depending on your playstyle, i like the longsword the most personally because it has a good skill set, but the dual blades are horrible and i find the moveset lacking up to the point you get knocked around all the time by enemies and you just lose interest.
Though this can be somewhat relieved using an augment which prevents this, though it requires a specific build so you're above 50% overhealth else it won't activate.
Besides the many flaws i found, there's probably a lot more which other players could point out, this game needs work, a loooooooooooot of work.
Now on Steam... with the Exulted Update, it feels much much better and responsive. The Action on Screen is better readable, the parry / Dodge Moves (Bread & Butter of GF) works now as intended.
The Combat is still hard, but now the balancing feels right. Combat can be very much "Souls" like, but without the punishment. Meaning if you Die you Re-spawn near the Battlefield, and keep going fully healed with all skill timers reset, the poor Enemies keep their wounds on them. ;-).
The combat-system reminds me of a Fighting Game. Big Move Set. Lots of Button Combinations to execute Moves. Lots of Game Mechanics to Master: Shoulshatter, Breach, polarize Attacks, Shield Throw, Shield Bash, Rampage, Über Move and so on and so forth.
GF is not a Button Masher because it buffers your input. One Button push to much and your parry / dodge Window in gone und you will be in a World of hurt. Enemies gang up on you, meaning if one staggers you, smash you down, the others will rush to your Side to aid you... to the Afterlife. Key is.. like in Nioh 1 & 2, Patience. Patience is the key to GF Combat.
There is also Loot. Like in Borderlands 1 - 3 with lot's of synergies effects. There are also Classes hidden in the Armorsets you can unlock through crafting. You got Loot that synergies with Poison: Mesa Valorplate is the way to go. Like in BL you switch the the Skilltree / Armor / Wepons / Valorplates depending on the loot you find.
Gameplay: GF is a hybrid between Exploration (Resources Grind) & Looter-Combat in an Open World Setting. There is no MAP, only a GPS Marker System that leads you in the right direction. NO Hand holding. But there is a WIKI Tab that explains a lot of the Gameplay mechanics. And in the Sanctuary Hub is a Training Room, if you buy the Game... spend time here to learn the Move sets. Come back if you find another Weapon Class to train the new move sets and abilities.
Back to your Question: Is GF worth it? Yes to support the Devs. Because they turned the Ship around and kept their promises. If you find GF in a Sale... it's worth a try.
BUT some nitpicks: Some Missions are LONG 90 Minutes or so. NO Save Points. Steep Learning Curve. The POP-ART Graphics can burn out your Retina. Cheers & hope that helps.
(To the Woke Generation. This is my opinion, it's as valid as your opinion. There is no right or wrong here. And for Pete Sake is a frigging Game we are talking about!!!)
The wikipedia is right, Godfall is NOT a souls-like. Godfall is similar to Diablo series, but played in over-the-shoulder perspective instead of isometric top-down perspective.
In early game you may utilize a lot of gameplay mechanics such as attack combos, blocks, dodges, parries, etc. But because equipments stats & valorplate abilities dictates how you play, as you get to endgame contents (Lightbringer, Towers, Dreamstones), the more you focus on spamming abilities & techniques so enemies die in 3 hits, ASAP. You won't bother to "dance" around enemies anymore.
But i do agree its very repetitive tho.
I wouldn't recommend this game unless you can play it for free, and even then, it likely isn't worth your time.
