Qualifying Sim Program and Quali

I am playing on 90 AI if that makes any difference.

Anyway, I have completed the practice sessions for the first few races of the season and I have noticed something that may suggest a tweak might be in order.

For all practice programs I am (more or less) easily smashing them out. Most of the management style programs I purple on the first lap and I very rarely have a lap disqualified in the race strategy program.

Suddenly I get to Qualifying program and I find myself consistently half a second or more down on the initial target time.

Jump into actual qualifying and I'm finding myself either just faster than Kubica or behind both of the Williams machines.

Then in the race I am flying past all these cars and I'm always finding myself in the points quite easily.

The point is that there seems to be a discrepancy in the sim programs. How is it that I can easily smash out the rest but suddenly become a snail in anything that has anything to do with qualifying?
