If I remember correctly, after about 5 or 10 minutes of chasing the prey should slow down, though this take patience and it’s easy to accidentally run into pack territory while doing this
I'm on challenging because i'm playing a runt of a runt, -2 health, -1(+1) strength, +1(+1) speed, and -2 stamina, so i've been hunting a lot of mule deer just cause they do less damage. i'll be switching to accurate soon and do more testing if the times are different.
When the deer just stand and stare, a quick successful attack is very importnant: sometimes they circle in a way that brings them closer, so you can bite them immeditially with a lot stamina still left to deal as much damage as possible. After that just let them run to stop some distance away, then repeat. I often try to approach the deer from their front, to make it likelier for them to make that silly circle. It doesn't work every time so if they get far right away, I just stop and try again and so on.
The deer seem to get a lot slower after taking damage so surpsingly my wolf was actually very efficient for hunting them, because it could hurt the deer a lot per attack.
I also have another wolf that's build for speed and it can pull this off too with -2 strength. So I guess it's more about strategy than stats, though stats can be very helpful.
