Loners are more likely to go out on their own to either mark or hunt, I had it happen a few times where they didn't ask me to go and would go off on their own.
Energetic mates are also likely to go out marking as they cannot stay still for literal minutes. I've probably had this happen a few times as well but they would ask me to go with them (I'd get social + energetic mates usually).
Social and Lazy do not apply here and neither does Bold and Cautious- though they may influence it.
The devs have confirmed that they will not be adding a command for them to go out because it would then feel like a sims game and not a realistic wolf game (thankful for this as sims is kinda going downhill). As for their ai, I think its ok- it's better than pre-saga somewhat. I know a little bit about ai but not much, I remember saying that mates won't do anything unless you do something but it feels like they fixed that issue.
If your mates whine at you to go out, ignore them- that's when they'll actually go out on their own to do something. Same with packmates such as your yearlings/subordinate adults. They will leave after a while of whining at you.
Though what is considered as everyone-needs-food and territory-needs-marked for the NPCs may not align with a players own view. So if you stay on top of stuff from how you interpret pack needs, you may not see them go out often, if at all.
I usually never saw excursions unless everyone was hungry, no one (not even me) had leftover food to cough up for pups, and/or around half or more of the territory was dipping below 50%. Then they'd whine about and go and if stay home or go do something else alone.
