UPDATE: HELP!!! Missing saves
Yall I don't know what to do- I started playing as one of my wolf's pups after she dispersed. I created a save for it and continued to play as my wolf. Later I played as the pup but when I looked for my wolf's save to play as him again THE SAVE WAS GONE. Like all of that wolf's saves just... gone. His family tree is still there with all his pups including the pups still in the den but there are no save files of him. I really don't want to loose this save. Is there anything I can do?

Okay I found the save file on my pc but I can't get it to show up in game. Anyone know how to fix this?

1. OneDrive has a habit of doing its thing which can make a software like WQ unable to use files like saves. Even if you don't use it. So check that and be sure the folders that hold files are set to be viewable offline.

2. Save files and wolves used in Public Beta branch may sometimes be "hidden" from the game if you switch back to the live branch. This happens when Beta patches have changes that make saves used incompatible with previous versions of the game, so to prevent you from breaking the game or that save, they are auto hidden if you switch off an active beta that does this until that update is fully ready. This sort of thing is usually mentioned in patch notes.

3. Verify your game files through steam. See if that does anything.

These are the primary three things to check.

Okay so I have the file but it isn't in the save folder. When I try to move/ copy it to the save folder I get a popup that says that the file can't be copied because it is open on windows explorer. The save file is a WOLFSAV file while the others in the folder are just a SAV file. I'm not great at technical stuff so I hope I explained that properly. Ill try what you said again. Even if it dose not work thank you for the help.

WOLFSAV files are not save files. They're wolf files, as the extension name suggests. In other words, that file is one of your playable wolves, not your save. Thus it belongs to the "Wolves" folder.

Ah okay. The file might have gotten deleted then. Ill try looking around more for it but it might just be gone sadly. Has anyone seen this glitch before? I mean the file was deleted while I was playing wolfquest which I haven't heard of before...

Update: I think I figured out what happened. I think the only save of my wolf (Azrael) was just called "SC auto save". So when I started to play as one of his pups It over rid that save. It might be a stretch but I cant think of anything else. Is there any way to reverse saves?

The game can't delete save files. It only does so when you are ironwolf or elder wolf and the wolf dies.

So if you overwrite a save or delete it on your own there's no way to go back to it.

Well I guess im out of ideas... I might be my fault but I never deleted or told the game to overwrite anything. Well thank you for your help. If anyone else has any ideas though I would be happy to hear them.

If you never manually saved while playing as him, then yes, that's probably what happened. The autosaves are in case you forgot to manually save or couldn't because of technical issues (game crash, freeze, etc...). They're frequently overwritten (every 5 or 10 minutes, I think).

Unfortunately, there is no way to reverse saves at all. Once it's overwritten, the previous data is gone for good. At that point, the only way to get the previous save back is to ask the game to pull your saves from the server. But that would delete your progress with the pup. Also, if you already asked the game to sync your saves with the server, or push them to the server, then it's too late to use that method.

I suggest backing up your saves before you encounter an issue with them if you plan on messing with your saves. take this incident as a learning moment!!

Yeah I should have.. I just didnt think that anything would happen because I was just playing as a different wolf. Oh well-
Man i feel you this shi just happened to me :C (I had a huge pack of 10+adults)
UPD: i actually somehow managed to solve the issue by restarting the game and pulling files from server. It got me somewhat relevent version of the save file, about 5 hours older than the last safe (but comparing to total disappearing that is FINE lmao)

I hope i'm not getting any tricky situations after this!

OMG WTF IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!!!

I swear I had THREE saves of my wolf Button and when I go to play as her kid they all get deleted. I backuped the files before hand but when I try to restore the backuped files its not working. Wolfquest is one of my favorite games but I feel like im getting close to just quiting.. Im so pissed off I mean wth... I didnt delete any of her files but they are just gone now. I know people have said that Wolfquest cannot delete a wolf's saves but WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON!?!?!?!? Im sorry im just annoyed and sad. I mean this is the second time this has happened... And now I cant restore the files? What am I doing wrong? Also I did have multiple manual saves of this wolf.

If they are manual saves, I will ask again: have you checked your OneDrive settings and made sure the folders that hold your save files locally are set to be "viewable offline"? OneDrive is notorious for "storing" files for safety, which makes them invisible for the game.

Okay so my dumb ass couldn't figure out how to switch one drive files so be viewable offline but I actually figured out how to reverse save files with one drive! it kinda crazy but it worked???? Honestly if you didn't tell me to check that again I wouldn't have figured this out so that you!!!

In OneDrive file navigation you can just right click the "my games" folder that holds all the wolfquest files and then there should be an option to set it to "viewable offline". That's what I did ages ago. not sure if the layout has altered where to find that option.
