Depends entirely what you prefer. LR is much more varied and X files themed but doesn't allow travelling between the other maps, HM is more natural and realistic and does allow map travelling. Both have their unique quirks that make them worth buying.

Lost River has an entire town, a graveyard, suburban areas, a cattle ranch to raid. Lots of fun human things to explore and find, lots of secrets. But IIRC it's almost entirely forest, so if you like big open grassland areas you won't find a whole lot of those. It has very beautiful natural areas, though, and plenty of wild space without human structures.

HM I have not played enough to know a whole lot about, but it does allow travel to AM and SC, unlike LR.

I have both, but I enjoy Hellroaring better. It’s so big and beautiful, and wolverines are fun to encounter!

I'd say LR is great for sidequests, because you can find Carmella, hunt cattle, explore an abandoned city, you have more possibilities if you like creating lore, there is a mine, too, and it's really fun if you like goofing off with friends in MP! For HM, it's more beautiful, realistic, and you can travel between SC and AM. For me I do prefer LR.

I bought Hellroaring recently and absolutely fell in lovee, for me the appeal was all the open land! Overall the map is absolutely beautiful, and the area of the map that allows for your wolf to potentially be hunted (though only in the fall I believe, don't quote me on that) has def given me lot's of storybuilding opportunities if you're into that

Hard choice, isn't it?! I got both of them as and when they were released. But choosing one or the other is next to impossible.

Hellroaring is great. It's beautiful, and has such lovely trees. That sounds so random, but it does!!

The problem is that a quarter of the map is dangerous to go due to hunters. Only in one season though, I believe.

I'd say Lost River, I think. The Cattle Ranch is amazing - really fun. The town is interesting, and it's fun to guess why the people evacuated. They're both really fun though... it depends what appeals most to you!!

Yeah, the portion of Hellroaring that is dangerous is only dangerous in Fall (I took a screenshot to show the dangerous area, it's marked at the top)

Here's a screenshot of Lost River, too, if it helps you decide

ty for all your guys' inputs! I decided to go with Hellroaring since I love mountains and the hunters are an interesting feature. I'll probably buy lost river one day though

Glad you could come to a conclusion!

Hello,

As much as i love this game, the gameplay loop stays quite simple, if not simplistic. We are "only" a wolf from the real world, within computer limitations. Following herds for hours, or using emotes to please your mates, or looking for your lost pups, or growling for a tasty dead carcass, all is fun, but after 10, 50, 142 times, limited.

Because of that, i prefer Lost River, as it can be more "gamey" than the others maps. Several weird stuff to find, strong landscape markers (old truck, mine shaft, etc), toys to collect, post-apo mood, dogs...
