but it appears that hes just a mix of both careful and bold, which is pretty balanced but can get annoying (at least its annoying for me lol)
Energetic wolves will not lay down for even a second and will run around as they cannot stay still, its like they have ADHD lol.
And Social wolves will constantly want to be with the player's wolf and interact a lot with emotes.

Ah, okay! I heard that if the wolves runs ahead of the player they are most likely energetic, so I look after that and the trait where they run around like crazy, that's so cute. So maybe he is balanced in energetic/lazy too then? He lays down occasionally for a bit before he gets up and runs about and interacting with me.
I guess I'll try again for a better one, thanks for the feedback guys! It helped a lot 🥰🫶
I absolutely love any mates that keep up with my wolf when we're out for a casual run. It indicates a bold and social personality that I adore. I always reject wolves that get too far behind because it seems to best hint at all three of the bad traits: laziness, caution, and loner
In my experience, there are absolutely no wolves who fight to kill, no matter the personality. They'll help to kill, but they're not bloodthirsty and shouldn't be. It's illogical for any wolf to take unnecessary damage to kill when their opponent already has the mind to flee. If they do a final blow, it's only a coincidence because you yourself already did the majority of damage. A potential mate not helping you fight wolves who are already fleeing should not count in your assessment of them. It should only count if both parties are actively fighting.
He might be a little lazy due to the evidence you put down by the end of your original post, but I'll take a slightly lazy, bold, social wolf any day rather than one who isn't lazy one bit but super cautious. What's the point of all that energy if they spend it being cautious? Plus, the chances are, the personality sliders are usually more in the middle. An energetic wolf is still free to lay down sometimes for the heck of it. Just not all the time. A cautious wolf can still bite and fight, just less so. The personality sliders are almost never tilted all the way left or right. Have to take some bad with the good.
All in all, it's my late opinion that you skipped out on a possibly awesome mate.
That's awesome! I assumed when wolves runs ahead of player wolf they are most likely energetic, not bold or social, since I've had wolves who runs far ahead of my wolf but are cautious in hunts or even a bit loner type. But at least it helps to perceive their personalities better now thanks to you guys ^-^
The mate I had was OK, but it could be better. xD I noticed he didn't attack until i did the first bite on either wolves or elk, so he wasn't enough bold for my liking, which is mostly why I went to find a another one. I always want to have a litter with bold, social and energetic pups, which makes the pack a super tough one. Although some in the litter, either 1 to 2 pups have traits randomly, being more lazy, cautious or loner type, but so far I've gotten most bold, energetic and social pups with matching traits of the parents.
I will be honest and say that it's a little annoying that the partner stays behind when I try killing off the rival wolves, and he just stand there howling, lol. But it's not a big issue. As long as he help out fighting them into submission, I'll just do the rest to lessen the invasion. But the fact having a mate that matches the player's traits (full bold, full energetic, somewhat social) gives seriously super pups. I think I had to do 20 saves to get through the young hunters quest with my 5 pups, since all of them were too bold for their own good. Lost 2 pups in mule deer hunts and elk hunts, that i had to go back and do over to make sure each of them survived. Such hassle, but worth it 😂
Oh nice! OK, I'll keep that in mind next time I try getting a mate. I got confused about this since once I thought I found an energetic wolf, he laid down for a while and I seriously pouted because I took it as a sign that he was more in the middle of energetic and lazy, and i was like, nope, you're no good. 😭
