a way to stop mate from following you to hunt?
I know you can tell your mate to go back to the den once you're away together, but is there a way to tell him to stay home in the first place? It's a little bit annoying to have to leave the den, try to target the mate who keeps running around me like a kid on a sugar rush and then tell him to get back home to the puppies. (and it makes me a bit paranoid to have them alone at the den while I try to get my point across to the other adult)

I'm not sure. Try targeting your mate before leaving, to Woof at him. It may cause him to stay behind. If it sends the pups in, you can easily call them out right before you leave, with a Squeak.

That probably won't change anything. They only start to follow once you're already away from the den.

As far as I know, there's no way to prevent it from happening (other than getting a lazy mate). You just have to hope. And don't worry, it's very unlikely anything will happen to your pups. When your mate follows you, they woof the pups into the den automatically (if they don't for some reason, you'll get a popup asking you if you're sure you want to leave your pups outside), and if a den raid were to start you should have enough time to get back quickly.

Edit: They can also randomly decide to leave the den while you're out and join you, even if you left a while ago.

There's no way to prematurely stop your mate from following you. You'll just need to send them back after they start following you. Just keep an eye out to make sure they don't follow you when you weren't paying attention. I've had mates that I didn't notice following me until I was on the other side of the territory.

There's unfortunately nothing you can do aside from woofing at them once you've left. Nothing happens to your pups since raids happen only if you're nearby, and your mate woofs them to stay inside the den anyway before joining you, so they're safe.

That has never happened to me. The only time they leave the den after I've been gone for a while is when I use the secondary howl, since that's the command for "come here"/"join me". If you didn't use the secondary howl when it happens, I suggest reporting it as a bug.

It only happened to me once... actually I've only ever had adult pups leave to hunt one time as well. If it's not a bug then it's just rare. I don't think it's a bug though? I'm pretty sure it's just that wolves only ever choose to leave the den when the territory is horrifically low or they're really hungry (which honestly could be improved-)

Idk, maybe someone can confirm it.

Edit: Actually, only happened to me once in the saga. Two of my pups ran up to me when I was marking and they didn't leave the den with me. It's happened many times before the saga with my mate.

Weird. Genuinely never happened to me at all except when I used the secondary howl. Not even when they were starving or some territory hexes were low. Same goes for my pre-Saga runs.

Keep an eye on the pawprints in the Pack Info tab whenever you're going on excursions. If packmates who were staying at home suddenly decide to join you in the middle of an excursion, I suggest reporting it still, just in case.

I check the pawprints a lot when I leave the den. It was a while ago though, not sure if it's worth reporting rn.

It is! report it! THAT IS NOT NORMAL-
Depressed_Cat Dec 11, 2024 @ 2:06pm
I've experienced it multiple times. If it happens again I'll report it but it seems like a feature to me. If it's not a feature than it absolutely should be because it's been nice to be surprised by my kids excitedly greeting me as I mark territory.

I'd rather get input by a mod or a dev if it's not normal or not. A lot of very uncommon events happen in WQ. Just because you haven't personally experienced something doesn't mean it must be a bug. (Thrice now have I seen things that I was sure were bugs, but were not.)

Sometimes pack mates will leave at the same time as you but go the other way. If they get close enough to you when they're out then they'll come join you. That's most likely what's happening. Though it would be cool if they did leave the den sometimes to join us without us calling them. Could definitely be a feature, haven't seen it personally but that doesn't rule it out. lol

Is it just me or is the mate /always/ following you out whenever you leave the site since the Saga released? Like, I'm not joking, 100% of the time, my mate is following me whenever I leave the den/site. He is a loner who gets occasional social spikes. I just want to make sure that a mate who always follows you whenever you leave is just a needy wolf and not a bug.

He may be energetic and enjoy leaving the den and running around a bit. I've had some mates that often come with me without asking, and others that prefer staying home, so I think it's at least partly a personality thing.

Yeah I notice that too. With more wolves, 2-4 will always join me. With less than 3 other wolves, all or most will join. I had a mate who always went out with me for a while, then when we had adult pups she never did.

okay that's good, so it's just my mate who always follows me around and not a universal bug that needs fixed haha
