The only other animal sims I can think of is old abandonware.
LION: Following lions.
WOLF: Following a pack of wolves or lone wolf, depending.
Both made by the same people but it's old, old, old. With old graphics.
Empires of the Undergrowth - Ants
Drunk on Nectar - arthropods (butterfly, ladybug, etc)
Untamed: Life of a Cougar - Cougar(this is a really old game)
Anywho, the question at hand:
Shelter 2 is probably the closest you can get to WolfQuest thus far. They're both tonally different, however; WolfQuest is an educational game about wolves in Yellowstone, and Shelter 2 is a walking simulator. If you can stomach ~2 hours of nothing but pure walking, be my guest. It's not a very interesting game but makes up for it with pretty landscapes and a good OST. Weirdest fever dream ever.
If you're interested in legitimate simulators, there's this one developer on the App Store called "Gluten Free Games". They make pretty low-budget simulator games like "Stray Dog Survival Sim", and yes, they've made a wolf simulator. They're buggy to hell and back, but good fun for a while. If you want to waste $1 on one of their games, go for it lmao
The Isle is more a fantasy/suspense game where you play with other players vs the other creatures being AI. And because of that you can expect some... iffy behavior from other players.
They are kinda unrealistic and not really fun at all. Super buggy and laggy and customization sucks. Takes forever to get to the level you need to be able to have babies and honestly, it's not even worth the $1. Definitely don't recommend Gluten Free games
Not at all like WolfQuest. WolfQuest is so much better than Gluten Free games and I'm not trying to hate but they honestly suck. WolfQuest is realistic and has real effort put into it while all GFG does is add new games with more animals and don't fix anything. They were fun when I was little but if you want a game that you will actually enjoy, WolfQuest is your best bet.
I did say it was a survival game and that it was multiplayer. A lot of people I know who like WolfQuest like the survival aspect, thus why I mentioned it here in case OP was similar. There are no games that are exactly the same as wolfquest but minus the wolves so I am just recommending games that have similarities to wolfquest and are also played by wolfquest players. The Isle and Cenozoic survival are played quite a lot by WolfQuest players, so a lot of people who play WolfQuest do enjoy the games so I don't see the problem with recommending it. Also all games with multiplayer involved have their "iffy" players, WolfQuest is no different. WolfQuest 2.7 more so than the Isle in my experience, though I have played WolfQuest more.
(I am a Steam noob when it comes to quoting certain parts so I apologise for this long wall of text XD)
They're not realistic, I agree, but honestly what animal simulators are going to be 100% realistic? Even WolfQuest isn't 100% realisitc (e.g a lone wolf being able to take down an elk by themselves is really rare. If only 10% of pack hunts succeed then a lone wolf hunting an elk is incredibly low). WolfQuest is an educational animal simulator and is one of a kind in that sense. OP was asking for games similar to WolfQuest, not an exact copy minus the wolves. With the GFG games you could play realistically if you wanted or do your own thing, it just leaves it for you to do whatever. Like the Sims you can do anything you want and cause chaos or try to play realistically based on real life. All animal simulators (except for WolfQuest as it restricts you to as much realism as it can) are like that. I don't think anything can come close to WolfQuest and it has set the bar high for good animal simulators, so anything anyone suggests here is going to get at least some disagreement because everyone's tastes are different.
...You're basically repeating what I just said, though? I said they were buggy and low-budget. I highly doubt they get play-tested before release. But, yeah; I don't recommend GFG, but they're an option.
Right! The sugar baby one is called 'Away: A Survival Series'. But I believe it has magical elements about it.
sorry im overly loyal and dislike most other games(i literally got 150 steam dollars for my b day and am planning to spend it all on wq DLCs), but i PERSONALLY like (not similar to wq) Sea of Theives, a game with REALLY pretty graphics where you are an a multiplayer server as a pirate.
also why y'all saying just wolfquest isnt enough??? ):<
WolfQuest is an amazing game but it shouldn’t be the only good animal simulator out there. There should be more games out there, more educational animal survival simulators with dedicated teams like the WolfQuest one. It was because of WolfQuest that a lot of people know what’s truth or myth regarding wolves, a demonised animal. If we expanded it to other animals not only would it provide a variety of experience to players but also educate the population. I personally had no idea wolf packs were literally families until I played WolfQuest, I believed the myth of alphas, betas, etc. The game changed my perspective of these animals. Imagine if they did something similar for animals like Cougars (another demonised/misunderstood animal) or Lions or something. I personally would love the stealth side of playing a cougar and being able to learn about how they live. For lions, imagine hunting with a pride or starting off as a lone male kicked out of your pride when you come of age to claim another. If you’re happy with playing WolfQuest and don’t want to be able to play a similar game with other animals that is 100% fine, your choice. But at least a lot of WolfQuest players would love more games like WolfQuest but with different animals, they want to learn or just play as their favourite animals or both. Wolves will always be my favourite animal and WolfQuest will always be my favourite animal simulator, but it would be nice to play as and experience the realistic lives of other animals. Even if you take the gaming experience aside, look at all the good WolfQuest has done for wolves. Shouldn’t that be extended to other animals? It’s not that WolfQuest isn’t “good enough” it’s that the game is so amazing that we want more amazing games like it. Hope that makes sense, multitasking while writing is a pain xD
