McBride Dens are Overrated
I'd just love to see that I'm not alone in this opinion. I mean, I can totally see why the McBride dens would be perfect for new players or cautious players. But as for me, I get sick of seeing the lake on my front lawn. It's pretty, but that's all there is. It's an absolute pain to swim through or go around and kills me inside when I have to reinforce the southern hexes. Predators are not so bad for me. I don't need just the two sides of the den to see if there is a predator.
I prefer the twin dens up north 99% of the time - or almost anything other den even. One is a dirt den and the other is a stump den, both of which are perfectly located almost in the middle of the map with plenty of sites around, although they're a fair distance from any elk herds and a fair bit harder to mark territory around in the winter.

It's a common sentiment in the official Discord Server for the game that the McBride lake dens are a bit stale and overused.

When I play on Slough Creek I usually stay away from the lake entirely. There are some dens in its area I enjoy, just not the ones that are right on the lakefront since the lake is an obstacle I don't enjoy going around so often.

I do not like to have the lake in my territory at all, to be honest, because it really just takes forever to swim through or run around. I think it's pretty and it would be cool but it's not worth the effort, so I tend to stay more in the second meadow area (which is gorgeous btw) for my Slough Creek territories.

I used to use the McBride dens a lot in my earlier games. But since I've started making one big hex for a territory, it's just not a good choice. Running all the way around the lake is annoying.

Honestly, at least the lake is less annoying than all the flooding that happens in second meadow. I've settled in second meadow and by god, the flooding is horrendous- it's probably the only reason I like first meadow so much along with amethyst, lost river and hellroaring.

though, the McBride dens are nice and while I like them, I don't always choose them since there's several other dens I deem my favorites, like the tree den by the lake or that mossy fallen tree den (if you know what im talking about, also I really like tree dens LOL)

First Meadow is the one that floods so much, I think. Second Meadow is the one that's South, and it has some flooding but First Meadow (the spawn location) is like swimming through multiple McBrides. Did you get them mixed up or have I been avoiding horrendous flooding in Second Meadow somehow? (Sorry if this sounds mean I'm just confused)

I think it depends on the person, but yeah second meadow has really bad flooding compared to first meadow, I don't have any issues with first meadow but second meadow? I have issues

Weird- all I really get in Second Meadow is the river being a little wide and like 2 oxbows, and practically the entire meadow is underwater in First Meadow

I do not use second meadow much since the last time I did, the river was insaaaaanely wide and took a long time to swim across depending on the den used.

First meadow is more swampy but it has some areas you can navigate around to stay dry. It's why I like the den in Saddle Meadows so much. You can go north and avoid the floods for food or go a lil south for easy access to 2 different beaver trails without crossing any water. It makes it all very convenient.

Also like the Mcbrie lake seems like it shoud flow from second meadow to first meadow, but fro some reason it stops and just flows into teh ground.

Edit: NVM i looekd it up on google maps and it seems to be a wierd lake being fuiled by a tiny creek. kinda wierd tbh.
