What you do is quite simple. lower the difficulty and/or DON'T sleep, this is because when you have pups, the game refills your sleep bar.

as for keeping your territory up, wait 4 hours in game, head to a scent post you set within those hexes and pee on them, they'll go up to 100%.

hope this helps!!

You can look for the scent mark in each territory and pee on it. Pee twice to claim it.

well the difficulty part is already done I am on easy as for the part about pups I don't have any (I haven't gotten that far because I cant hold the territory long enough to get past the quest)

They know you don't have pups. They were saying don't worry about sleeping because you'll gain energy back after having the pups.

My recommendation is to start a new save and start the quest over. Immediately begin marking where you want your territory. Don't hunt or sleep, just mark all 15 hexes (i do 19 but you only need 15). If you do more though the chance is higher that you'll have at least 15 over 50%. I set the scent post and howl then move on to the next hex (it's best if the mate howls with you so let them finish howling before running off. Be strategic, mark as you go so you don't have to go back and forth a lot. You can get all these done before you actually need to sleep (most of the time). Even if you run out of energy you can keep going and finish the quest. It lowers your stamina so you can't sprint but otherwise doesn't mess anything up. Choose an area of the map that is not claimed as it will be much faster to claim territory if it's already open.
Find dens along the way as you need 4 discovered to claim the territory or use the quest tab and have it find the dens for you once you've got your hexes marked.

When you go back to mark the hexes after 4+ hours, you don't have to mark the scent post you made before. You can make a new scent post, and the territory will go up to 100%. That way you don't have to go to the scent post, which can speed up marking.
But yes, the MOST IMPORTANT part is to not sleep. Even if your wolf gets tired, sleeping while marking makes it take forever. I also only ever hunt once during marking if at all, and only if I find prey while marking.

There are also plenty of guides that explain ways to make marking easier.

No sleeping

I'm honestly not sure why so many people have this issue. I usually sleep 3 times during territory quest and I've only had stranger wolves nibbling at a hex a few times, and I've never lost one at all. Are you trying to set up territories right next to strangers' home hexes?

You can howl 2-3 times to boost the claim even more, preventing the hexes from getting destroyed so fast. I learned that during my first ever save in lost river

I also don't sleep during territory marking, it just makes your claim last even longer. Sleeping is likely to decrease the hexes that you just claimed so you'd have to run back to them during the completion process. Still, establishing territory takes me awhile; Atleast it isn't as long as it takes to raise your pups to 15 pounds. It takes me many pumps of motivation to actually do that (i did get lucky and got 2 wolves to age 6, though. one in lost river, another in amethyst -- i still don't understand where i get the sudden patience from)

When you go into a new hex, press the v key so you see scents. Then follow the little marker (where you see things like the den marker) that looks like a horizontal circle with waves coming out. If you go in that direction, (still in scent mode) you will eventually see the large scent post which you can pee on top of repeatedly. This can claim that hex much faster.

Yes. I read somewhere that each time you howl, it boosts your hex about 10% more.

Most new players have issues with this quest. The more they play and learn the easier it will get.
If you wanna claim hexes faster, do this: The second you start establishing territory, claim all of the hexes that are grey (press P to mark). Keep in mind to never sleep or hunt, because this will cause you to waist time and it will make your hexes weaker. Just get it all done as fast as possible before your hexes start weakening. Hope this helps ^^ :Happy_Pup:
