Making mods
I wondered, is making mods for WQ frowned upon at all? I know some stuff about 3D modelling and re-texturing, love to make some ENBs or texture overhauls for the game, or even add more animals. Like Canadian lynxes, pronghorn, bighorn sheep and etc. Even perhaps maybe ways to join npc packs if nobody cares about the realism aspect of the game

I honestly don't know, I think it's better not to risk it. At the most you could ask the WQ team who could give you some clarification

I asked them this a few months ago. They don't ever plan on allowing mods, since WQ is meant to be an educational game. Giving people the ability to make and add mods, will take away from the realism. And They're very adamant about keeping it as accurate to Yellowstone as possible.

Now, that doesn't mean you can't just root around in the games files, and mod it anyway, though, I doubt the devs would be too happy about that

Even if you decide to go ahead and mod the game, be aware that you wouldn't be allowed to use them in multiplayer. The support page for multiplayer rules[support.wolfquest.org] does state that hacking or modifying the game files is not allowed, so I imagine that covers unofficial mods.

For the work and effort you'd be putting in, another thing to consider: you might not be allowed to distribute your mods, making them personal use at best ... or cease-and-desist at worst.

It might be better to wait and see if a developer responds before doing anything.

If anything gets modded it'll def be SP only, but most modding i'd probably do is just changing environment textures too look better/coat colors haha. Ive heard around there adding new animals soon anyway, so thats off the table for me! :)

I think it's a bit weird to not allow mods, I get it's educational, but for the older people who know how to mod and have played the game over and over again, I feel like it's a good idea to add mods so that people don't eventually get bored/tired of the repetitivity.

To clarify: I think modding is awesome (truly one of the greatest aspects of computer games in general). However, for both technical and content reasons, we have no plans to add it to WolfQuest. I don't talk about it much because there isn't much more to say after saying that.

This is the development stance for mods in WolfQuest. It's just not something that's in the plans, so there's no general support for it and thus not much to really say after.

So it's not really frowned upon so much as there's not much reason to really focus on it.

Personally I'd rather the developers be able to implement a lot of stuff into the general game instead of rely on mods, but that's just me.

I'm going to lock this thread now, though. It's 2 years old, so that makes it a necro.
