Well, after sleeping by a mule deer carcass he was woken up by a bear and cougar who'd come to steal his kill. The cougar got chased off by the bear but just as it was going to eat 3 Canyon Pack sisters showed up and four wolves it seems was too much for it and they chased off the bear with a lot of confident posturing, growling and howling. In their number was a 3 star brown and orange wolf, a 4 star almost midnight black wolf and and another 4 star black wolf but who had this ashen grey back patch that extended down the sides of her front legs. After chasing off the bear they all howled together in celebration and then each started vying to get his attention. The brown and orange kept doing Avert Gaze and only sermed interested when her sisters were, whilst the midnight black one was more bold and was initially the one whom Lykaios was more interested in. However, the ashen grey backed female would keep sitting down and howling, make a lot of noise to get his attention and soon wooed him by sheer determination. After their trial period, now they make trouble for the other wolves, because Ash is determined to tell all the other wolves exactly where they are with her constant howling and is mire often than not the first one to dive into a fight. Cougars and bears and coyotes and foxes all have been viciously attacked (not always successfully mind you) by this madwolf. She's even taken the lead on hunts and chased away the big pack members and although you'd think she'd take a lot more damage doing that she's smart enough to know where to attack. She is kind of nuts but in being like that her personality just seems to fizzle right up to the sky snd make her such a memorable character.
My favorite mate was the 3rd wolf I found for my original female, Imala, a black she-wolf
Life had not been easy for Imala, she got kicked out of her birth pack because she did not wanted to submit anymore to her mother, who was a very abusive alpha. Imala tried to take over, but the alpha was older and more experienced. Imala had to flee to stay alive. She got bitten in the face, but recovered, even though she always kept a nasty scar and a notched ear.
And life became even harder once she was on her own. She had a hard time learning how to hunt alone. She got hungry. But she finally got it and was finally free to be herself.
Even though that meant always fighting coyotes, bears and the wolves from the nearby pack that kept stealing her preys. Until she killed one of the female from that red pack.
Things got a bit easier for a while, the other wolves left her alone for a time. She learned how to handle coyotes, bears and even the big cats. But, one day, the dead wolf's packmates came to take their revenge.
They attacked her during an important hunt, as Imala had trouble finding a decent meal for several days. 3 against 1, she barely escaped with her life, almost killing one of the wolves in the process.
While fleeing, she found herself in enemy territory. She did not even get to really rest, or clean up her wounds, before the 2 not injured wolves that attacked her before found her again, hungry, injured and exhausted
She fought back, but felt as if it was probably her last fight. One she will loose. She was just too hungry, too tired and already badly injured. But she could not give up, even though she knew she did not stand a chance.
She fought hard and it was very bloody. But no matter how hard she tried, she was alone and the others wolves were well fed and not as tired or injured as she was.
She was near the end, she was seeing no way out anymore, as she was not able to flee and outrun the wolves. But event then, she never gave up, all growling and giving back every bites.
And then, coming out of nowhere, a big dark grey dispersal wolf appeared and saved her from the 2 pack wolves, making them run with what remained of their tails between their legs.
Imala was reluctant to let that big wolf come near her, at first. Months of life as a rogue, always fighting other wolves, made her a bit on edge and she found herself having a hard time trusting another wolf again. And he was very big, older, stronger and kind of scary looking.
But he was patient with her. Maybe he understood what she went trough. So he waited, giving her his best wolf smile, until she felt ready for him to come near. And, as she was not able to move anymore with her injuries and lack of sleep, he stood by her, protecting her from other wolves until she was strong enough to move away from the enemy territory.
But even then, she was too weak to really participate in a hunt. Running around too much and getting kicked could reopen her wounds. So he hunted for her, doing all the work so she could eat and fully recover. And, all the time, he kept smiling at her. He was not much of a talker, but he told her the name his mother gave him: Smiles.
She knew right then that he was the wolf she wanted at her side until the end. Never in her life she had felt the way she did with Smiles. He was a perfect partner and proved himself to be a really good and caring father. And he loved her just the way she was.
They had many pups, that are now all grown up. Some left their parents to form families of their own, others stayed. In any case, it was always their choice, as Imala sworn to herself that she would never make her pups feel the way her mother made her feel.
The end ^^
He wound up being super goofy and doing weird stuff like trying to stop mid trot to howl or walking into my wolf, but he was the most helpful one I ever had. Regularly went and did territory and stuff on his own, fought off lots of predators and very few prey animals made him hesitate. he was really more than I could ever ask for.
He died to a bear attack while I was trying to get some scraps off a carcass. I have been heartbroken ever since.
He sadly passed away at the age of 8 in his sleep, he two years older than Opal. I'm too afraid to age her up and have her pass away because I hold a lot of love for the first wolf I created, but I like to think she, too, passed away of old age, and now they're running together in the green fields of the afterlife.
However, a close second would be Wasp, Hawthorn's mate, who is the son of Opal and Oak. I can't remember the exact details of their meeting, but I've never once regretted choosing her. She and Hawthorn were just meant to be. Their personalities complimented each-other, and they were a fearsome couple together. If Hawthorn stumbled in a hunt, Wasp was there to drag the prey down and give him time to recover. Bears and cougars did not deter her, and for two brief, painful moments I'd thought a bear would make mince meat out of her, but she walked away with her head held high and the bear ran for the hills. She was always playing with the puppies, and if Hawthorn needed to leave for a brief moment, she would stay behind to look after the pups. Like Opal and Oak, they had a really close bond. Hawthorn adored her, and she was besotted with him.
She was two years older than Hawthorn, but lived to the age of 9 when she passed in her sleep today. I'm planning to let Hawthorn have a peaceful ending, so he can reunite with his Wasp once again.
