So what are the facets of stealth?

Curious about the exact contextual effects of stalking? And I suppose the various effects of stealth in general. For example I have observed stalking allowing me to get closer but how and when does this happen? Is stealth effected by wind and rain in storms? That kind of thing

It is most certainly affected by wind direction the most.

I would have expected approaching from the bottom of a hill would affect stealth since it blocks the sight of prey but apparently it does not play a role in this.

According to one of the articles in their Knowledge base, stalking in the game is purely for ambiance. Wolves don't really benefit from stalking in such open areas. So in the game they don't benefit from it either. They are easily seen. The only thing that affects hunting at this point is if you approach from downwind.

In my case, stalking seemed to affect how fast the prey saw me. If I approached just walking up to them, the deer saw me miles away, even if I approach from downwind. If I stalk, I generally manage to get closer.
So I dunno.
My experience at least.
