How Many Wolves In Each Pack?
Does anyone knows this? I don't think there's duplicate wolves, for example, I don't think that if Lamar 12F dies then another one like her respawns. But is it possible to hunt a pack to extinction? My wolf, Rose, and her mate, Halloween, have been doing a genocide run. So far, the Junction Butte pack has been eradicated. They've currently gotten the Lamar pack to a single hexagon that's mostly faded, and they've killed maybe 10 Lamar wolves in that hexagon alone, but after killing the wolves, howling, and using scent to track down whatever ones are still in there, they still haven't managed to erase that last hexagon. Rose and Halloween have to sleep eventually, so they sleep inside the territory, and despite not being attacked while sleeping, when they wake up, the hexagon's color is more intense. Which makes me think that there's still Lamar wolves in the territory, but where? Does anyone know if this is a bug or just a game mechanic to protect stranger wolf packs? Can anyone who has done this before give me some tips? Thanks!

The wolves are supposed to respawn. Decimating all the packs was a bug players can exploit in older patches, but it's been fixed in a recent patch (v1.0q)

Well darn. How recently? Because like I said, the Junction Butte pack was killed off just two days ago.

Looks like it was just yesterday, actually! Well thank you, I hope they turn it back though, because it's not very realistic for the wolves to just respawn.

EDIT 2: But wait, my save file that I'm playing on is my original game from the day the game released. If the fix only works on new games, then mine shouldn't be affected, right?

I have eliminated all marked cells in a save before, pre-1.0q. It is very possible, if you run along the map bounds for a while. Here's what freedom looks like :steamhappy: https://gyazo.com/e93f2bc36efe216b419725cb9e2884f1

If you have a pre-1.0q save, you can still slaughter your rivals like in the image shown. Try sleeping in the colored area(s), the remaining pack wolves will usually appear nearby which will allow you to fight them.
[BTW: It's pretty easy to go in diagonally and gradually defy the boundaries. I personally wish they would be expanded to match the map area more closely, but eh.]

I agree I wish they'd expand the map a bit more I love the Lamar river area and I can't even explore most of it cause of an invisible barrier, even if it's just to the edges of the map then the boundries im not sure why they leave so much space if it's just blocked off- IG for AI wolves, prey and stuff but... still?

It wasn't really realistic for one young wolf, and maybe their mate, to destroy three whole thriving packs in the span of like a month either, but realism in games is a give and take relationship LOL

Well no, but that's a problem of the AI, it shouldn't be that the same simply doesn't allow it. Just like killing grizzlies in the last game, I've always been of the opinion that the AI should be smarter and more aggressive. I'm sure they'll fix that in the upcoming future, but for now, if the AI want to all split up and sit there and snarl instead of attacking as a pack like a real wolf pack would, then the game should allow players to eliminate packs.
