City map? Generate new city?

Sometimes you get a city layout that's really hard to work with. Several libraries next to each other, cleaning places nowhere to be found, no job/library/cleaning/hostel combo, etc. Trash also runs out eventually. Sometimes you're forced to walk to the edge of the city to generate a new one.

However, this usually takes days and is a really frustrating process because you can't use the bus (you might get sent backwards). You don't know where you are in the city so you don't know if you should go left or right. You need to get lucky to find hostels and shelter in the winter. And you can also forget about getting a job in that time unless you get really lucky.

I think there should either be some kind of city map you could access or a way to travel to the edge of the map on the bus (or both). Right now generating a new city layout is way too hard and makes the game very luck-based.

This is meta-cheesing as hell, but when I want to generate a new city map I use the cops.

Just beg in front of a cop. Repeatedly. You'll be relocated to a new neighborhood instantly, at the cost of some happiness and crime.

I thought about that but I thought it only moved you to a new area and wouldn't actually generate new city. What's your experience? I might be wrong. I'll definitely experiment with this in my next playthrough.

I had assumed that the street signs had something to do with locating yourself, but they seem random.

It might have been cool if the street signs had a pattern to them like in Washington DC where they're in alphabetical order (and streets with the same number of syllables are together), or in NY and other cities where they are numbered. This could help players locate themselves on the map, remember where certain places are, and know how close they are to reaching the city limits.

yeah, now when you start a game just buy a ticket to the job office and if the layour is good play on the map, if it's bad....restart:)
