A few people had an issue related to audio on Myst IV that caused crashing. These are instructions that someone posted that worked for resolving the issue for a few people;
"If you have a wireless headset:
UNPLUG IT! A few people on on GOG (which this version is based on) have found that a wireless headset causes the CTD. I have a Corsair VOID Wireless Headset that caused the issue.
If you don't have a wireless headset:
1. Go to "Device Manager" and open "Human Interface Devices."
2. Disable the first "HID-compliant____"and start Myst IV.
- If it still crashes, re-enable that device and disable the next one
3. Repeat until you find the device that crashes Myst IV.
4. Open the Driver's Properties and go to the "Details" tab.
5. In the drop down, go to "Hardware Ids"
6. You'll see a list starting with "HID\VID_....."
7. Right after the "VID_" there will be 4 hexdecimal characters (0-9, A-F). This is called the Vendor ID (who made the product).
8. Google the Vendor ID to see what's causing the issue. Mine was "1B1C" which is Corsair's.
9. a. If you have one product by that manufacture, unplug it and see if Myst IV runs.
- If it does, sucess!
- If it doesn't, you might have another HID device causing the issue.
b. If you have more than one device you can try to google the Vendor ID and the Product ID (this is the hexdecimal number after "PID_") to narrow it down to the exact device."
[whatever drive you have it on C for most people] -> Program Files [It might be Program Files (x86)] - Steam -> steamapps -> common -> Myst IV. That could be entirely wrong depending on where you installed it to, but basically you have to find the Myst IV folder. Within that folder, find the application. It should end in .exe. Right-click it and select properties. Click on the compatibility tab, try setting it to win 7 service pack 2, if that does not fix the problem also try Windows XP serivice Pack 2. Windowed mode also can help.
If that fails try isolation to one processor (note that you can also try doing a combining with compatibility mode)
1. Under Steam Libraries Right click Myst IV
2. Select Properties
3. Set Launch options
4. Type /affinity 1 (Affinity 1 is core 0 Affinity 2 is core 1 You can choose which ever one you want)
5. Select Ok
The other alternative which may work to correct the problem for you is to go to https://github.com/riverar/IndirectInput/releases, download 'dinput.dll' and place it in your /bin folder.
The steps, one by one:
- Go to the linked site above; download "dinput_0.1_win10_x86.zip", then Extract.
- Next, open and move "dinput.dll" to the /bin folder of the game's files.
- The file path should look like --> D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Myst IV Revelation\bin
That worked for me
