But it bothers me the max resolution seems to be 1024x768, in an era in which HD monitors (16:9) are minimum standard and even UHD / 4K monitors are used.
Is there a way to enable more and higher resolutions?
In order to truly make Revelation HD they would have to go back through each image and add more detail. Although there is talk about maybe adding upscaling or there has been newer AI upscaling demonstrated that seems to do an accurate job re-creating images in higher resolutions, but none of these have been implemented yet in the Myst series. I think the 7th Guest is the only pre-rendered

Not at the moment. Whereas 3d games are rendered in realtime, so you can just add new code and everything will automatically be scaled to higher resolutions, most of the Myst series (including Revelation) was pre-rendered or essentially each image is handcrafted in a computer not just code making each frame.

I think "The 7th Guest 25th Anniversary Edition" is the only pre-rendered game to do upscaling so far and did seem to get a positive reception so it may be possibility that Cyan will try that.
That explains why it looks odd in maximized Windowed mode on HD monitors - the X axis is a bit more stretched than the Y axis.
Playing in Windowed mode with an enlarged window (1080 in Y axis, with 4:3 ratio) looks pretty good though.
having the same problem like the rest of you tried everything in this thread but it has not worked at all from still having the same issue with the launch box popping for a few seconds then the game not starting.
running windows 10 integrated graphics all drivers are up to date
have tried compatibility mode
verifying the files
the dinput.dll
the v1.01 v1.03 patch
un-installing re-installing
turning off other programs e.g. virus programs.
any help would be awesome
1. Right-click on the Steam icon.
2. Close (or otherwise minimize) Steam.
3. Click on the Myst IV icon.
And it usually plays fine from there.
But - I once had to install DirectX 9.0c to make another game run which doesn't support later DirectX versions. Maybe some libraries got installed which are also needed for Myst.
Unfortunately, this DirectX version is very old (was needed for long-outdated Windows versions) and is hard to find on Microsoft pages these days, if available there at all.
But there are enough trustworthy sites (e.g. gaming or gaming journalism sites) which offer the offline installer.
Otherwise use Google.
