DVD required?!
I clicked on one of the cupboards in Atrus study (at the beginning, the desk with the single page on it) and the game exited and I was given a dialog saying:

"Insert the Myst Revelation DVD #2 into the Drive"

Err.. this is Steam... I don't have DVDs!!!

Can someone at Steam please fix this please?

Thank you,
Woody.

To be clear I think you probably will end up having to contact Cyan but here are a few things you could try.

Try verifying the game cache;
Right-click on the game in your Steam library, select properties, select the local files tab, and click “Verify Integrity of game cache”.

I would also check to see if the Mac has any updates it has not already installed.

If this does not change things try to do a verify disk check of the Mac. Go to Applications, Utilities, Disk Utility, and select your drive and Verify Disk. If it does detect anything go ahead and do Repair Disk.

If still not working try re-installing Myst IV.

If all those fail I would contact Cyan support either by emailing them at support@cyan.com or creating an account and making a ticket at http://support.cyan.com/

iMac and 10.13.6 here as well - same message at the frequency puzzle.
This is the PC version, no wonder it won't play well on a Mac. I've got the Mac version as well, guess I'll have to skip the "Steam experience" and replay it offline.

If you have the game on Steam and choose to play it on your Mac, it's the Mac version.

Steam does not try and load a PC version on your Mac, because Steam supports both Mac and PC, and the game version you play is the direct result of whether you're logged into the Steam account tnat owns the game on a PC or a Mac.

I own the original Mac games and the graphics are somewhat different. Maybe the new editions for OSX are ported from the PC versions? The 25th Anniversary DVDs are the same as the Steam versions (I'll have to resurrect an older Mac to check, but the "insert disk" dialog is definitely non-Mac).
Anyway, I followed a suggestion in another thread and turned Time Machine off. It worked! The message doesn't appear anymore. Maybe this is mentioned somewhere in the manual; if it isn't, it should :)

Same here. iMac with OSX 10.13.6. Game crashes (asks for Disc 2) are different points during very first gameplay scene.

Ubisoft still held rights to selling the games until the 25th Anniversary Editions updated all the games for newer operating systems (Windows 10/MacOS10.13.6+) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1252280491/myst-25th-anniversary-collection?ref=creator_nav.

Myst 4 was created and released (September 10, 2004), years before Apple's Time Machine (released February 29, 2008) started interfering with the game's play after 2018. For that reason alone, the suggestion was never in the manual, and isn't likely to be added at this late date.

We're glad to see turning off Time Machine helped fix the annoying message for you.

If your game's crashing during the first gameplay scene, it's likely to be a hardware issue more than anything to do with the message.

Have you tried playing it with your iMac's Time Machine disabled?

Oh. Sorry for the late reply. I mean add it to the Steam instructions - of course it couldn't be in the original booklet.
The original booklet *actually* mentions possible conflicts with "some DVD-RW and virtual drives", though. Guess they weren't kidding :D
