Myst IV: Revelation

Myst IV: Revelation

How do you display this game at 1024x768 on a widescreen monitor?
I've tried everything I can think of, but the resolution of the game does NOT change when I adjust the slider in the game's menu, and the game appears stretched horizontally while playing. My screen is 1920 x 1080, and my GPU is a GTX 1070.
The game runs just fine, but there must be some way to get it to appear correctly. It should have black bars on either side, and not be stretched, but so far, nothing works.

You'll need to adjust your video card settings. There's an option called "Scaling" and you'll want to select "keep aspect ratio" so the game can play in the middle of the screen with the original resolution. Myst, Riven, Exile, and Revelaiton are all pre-rendered photos so there's no way to just bump up the resolution. This "aspect ratio" scaling trick is something I had to learn way back when I started buying classic games from GOG.

Ah, but that's the thing. Try as I might, I have not been able to find this option in my video card's settings. Where is it? I have a GTX 1070 Founder's Edition, if that matters...

EDIT: Nevermind. I just finally figured it out. The problem is, the settings are worded differently from how they're usually described online, and in your advice above (which was still helpful, so thank you).

If anyone else is having the same issue, this was the solution: NVIDIA Control Panel > Adjust Desktop Size and Position > Select "No Scaling" > Click dropdown menu titled "Perform scaling on:" and select GPU > Make sure "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs" is NOT selected > Apply and Save the settings. Now, I can play this game in the original resolution, without any stretching, and it's surrounded by blackness. I wonder if there's any way, now, to just "stretch" this correct version to a larger size. I don't mean change the resolution, just basically zoom up the frame a little. That would be nice. But regardless, the long wait is over.

If you choose "Aspect Ratio" instead of "No Scaling" the game will fill the screen from top to bottom while only having black bars on either side.

Thank you!! This simple post solved my problems with aspect ratio on these games.

I found that the only thing I have to change from the default settings in the NVIDIA control panel is to "perform the scaling on" the GPU instead of the monitor. Don't need to change the resolution.

My desktop is normal-sized at 1920x1080 (the native resolution), and the scaling only happens when I play the Myst game.
