I wonder what changed to cause this to happen?
This works- make sure file extensions are on so you rename the .ini file not the .exe file, you may need to open the game folder by right clicking the Myst III listing in your Steam library to open the file location via Properties- local files- browse local files (you may not see it if opening through Windows as you don't see all the files, if you still don't see it turn on show hidden files, easiest to find it via Steam though)
Wonder how the error crept in, hopefully the makers will address this in case the fix messes anything up (in theory it shouldn't as you've copied the possibly wrongly named file in case!)
Residual VM is the software that runs old 3d games btw.
