Pause the game?

How do you guys pause your game?

I noticed that for absolutely no sensical reason you aren't able to pause this single player, offline game. I know cheat engine has a speed feature that you can macro to 0% speed in order to makeshift a pause button which does work in most games but because this game has "easy anti cheat" and pausing a game would be cheating, I guess, the game auto crashes upon detection. Is there a workaround, what do you guys do?

I prefer to step away from the game when my group is in the safe room. That way I don't have to worry about any potential mutations or hordes showing up while AFK.

If it can't wait for the safe room then I log out and restart the level later.
