You can do that without cheaty special powers too by listening and applying common sense...
I have a weird feeling about this thread... I can sense it...
Common sense is not wall hack, when you see everything highligh in red, this is very easy to see.
In a mid fight you can't pay attention to everything, then you see lot of red thing, that can save you.
That is up to you, personally. With a good headset - and even without sound - you can quickly tell danger is around the corner. A good hearing does that for you even without you need to look in the direction where the danger comes from.
I feel secure with karlee man, can't stop using her.
i'd rather have walker's health/ping, hoffman's accessories, heng's reuse chance, sharice's bolstered health/armor, doc's trauma resist, i'd even prefer holly's 5% damage resist.
she's a crutch. just like evangelo's breakout ability is a crutch to substitute poor teamplay and poor communication.
There are no alternative "team use speed" bonuses in the game at all. Karlee's ability increases everyone's use speed by 50% at no cost. A 50% increase in use speed is huge, and it's important because it makes every "use" action take less time. Healing, reviving, activating a defibrillator, getting players & NPCs out of cocoons, doing mission objectives (planting bombs, boarding up windows, loading the howitzer, opening the police station door, hooking up crates, etc.), opening supply boxes, clearing webs out in hives. So many actions become faster to complete. It's possible to imitate this ability by making everyone take a use speed card that offers +50% or more, but you'll save 4 slots for the entire team just by picking Karlee. Those 4 slots can be spent on other important team bonuses or free up more space for various individual bonuses.
Karlee can carry an extra utility item at no cost. The most important utility items in the game are also the most expensive ones. If you find an extra toolkit/defibrillator, it's possible to keep it instead of leaving it behind. If the team has just 1 toolkit left, Karlee can hoard multiple defibrillators. If someone needs to carry a Specimen Container and needs to give up their utility slot, Karlee can be given the largest set of utility items the team has at the moment. It allows some inventory micro-management during the mission that can save copper.
Karlee's ability to see highlighted special Ridden and hazards through walls is extremely helpful when you have poor visibility (fog, darkness, the toxic overlay, bushes, the "Garden Party" maze, etc.). It also lets you spin up the minigun earlier when you're preparing to shoot a special Ridden behind a corner.
Karlee's starting gear is useful for the entire team. Even if the player who has picked Karlee doesn't need her gear, it can be donated to other players. Whoever is using a slow-firing weapon in their only primary slot (a sniper rifle, a shotgun) can take Karlee's Tec-9. Whoever needs an AK can get it right in the safe room instead of taking M4 for the time being. A free toolkit is a free heal using the first aid cabinet, a disabled alarmed door, an unlocked stash room, or something useful for the mission (crossing without calling a horde or just crossing the lake in "Cabins By The Lake" faster).
Finally, it's important to note that Karlee fits into many team compositions due to her versatility. Her increased use speed and an extra utility slot act as a multiplier on the healer's abilities (even if the healer isn't Karlee). Her ability to see special Ridden before everyone else makes it possible to apply "Marked For Death" earlier and/or pre-aim, boosting the damage from "Patient Hunter" and "Tunnel Vision" in the process. Her ability to see highlighted sleepers is extremely useful when there's a lot of other noise in the background (the screeching of commons, the roars of specials, the horde music, the Boss music, explosions, etc.), while speedrunning, and during "clutch" scenarios when the last player standing has to finish a mission solo.
