Unable to Launch Back 4 Blood

As title states, I am unable to launch Back 4 Blood, at all. I downloaded the newest update and since then it will not open. When I attempt to open the game via Steam or desktop, even if i try Admin, I get the following error: Error Couldn't Start: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Back 4 Blood\start_protected_game.exe" Gobi -saveToUserDir CreateProcess() returned 2e4." The launcher does not show up, only this error. When I navigate to the installation folder and try to open the game from there, I get the same error. However, if I attempt to open it via the anti cheat file, the launcher shows up and then disappears. I verified filed tons of times and have now reinstalled the game twice. I made sure my PC is up to date on everything too. I thought it was a driver issue, so I reinstalled my drivers to make sure, and that was not it. I cannot figure out why I am getting this error. Any suggestions? I posted a bug report on the Back 4 Blood support page as well.

I am running Windows 10. Not sure if that matters. Made sure antivirus and firewall allow the game.

Reinstall all Visual C++ and supportive graphic drivers. Determine what Direct X version does your graphics card supports. It’s not going to run if your computer can’t understand the instructions to launch it.

Hi Serwiseguy, your issues sound a bit different from mine but I am also having "Gobi" crash issues. At one stage I could not start the game and after watching a youtube video by a guy name "Ranheirrujam" found that if I deleted my "GameUserSettings.ini" file, I could get back into the game and then start tinkering with graphics settings. The GameUserSettings.ini settings are located in this area: Local Disk (C:) > Users > Your Username > AppData > Local > Back4Blood > Steam > Saved > Config > WindowsNoEditor. I am still having problems but at least I can get the game started. Best of luck.

Sadly this did not help. And, I reinstalled my graphic drivers on top of that. Thank you for the suggestion!

Don't worry. This game will be dead before the end of the year anyway.

I was wondering if it might be the anticheat exe file itself. When I try to open the easy anticheat setup file nothing opens. Even in admin.

Some people have commented on allowing the anticheat to run as administrator and you can apparently do this from within Steam. If I can find it again, I will let you know the details.

I haven't been able to find the article but you can give Admin privileges by going through your Steam folder i. e. Steam > steamapps > common > Back4Blood > EasyAntiCheat
Right click on EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe and run as administrator.
I don't know about the security implications of doing this though.
