Really hoped this game would be better than L4D, not because I hate L4D, but because it is about as old as can be, played it to death on multiple accounts and at friends' houses. It's about time for a new contender but sadly, B4B ain't it.
Too bad you don't have any money and can't afford to buy games when they are cheap on sale, but I guess most of you income goes towards Roblox.
Yeah agreed... I've only started to play L4D2 since 2012. I got around 4K+ hours and endless nights of fun with L4D2. Stopped in late 2021... It's not that I don't want to install it again to have fun. I either want a new game, L4D3, or a remake of L4D2 (not a remastered version) with new-gen graphics, and I'll buy it even if it's $70. The game hits differently.
I've always enjoyed zombie FPS games, but I've never seen or played one that comes close to the fun that L4D2 delivers.
I was so excited for B4B and got heavily disappointed. The worst part of it was people calling it a successor to L4D2. Turtle Rock Studios could have easily listened to the community and made a big change/update that would have impacted the way the game has been played. But they decided to abandon the project coz they knew that they couldn't milk tf outta the player base anymore.
What I think kills Left 4 Dead for me in the current day, is the toxic community that Left 4 Dead has spawned when it comes to games in the same genre as Left 4 Dead. The L4D community loves to spew useless and childish remarks over a game they don't even like and say they care nothing about, but will spend the time to come back and beat it like a dead horse. The Left 4 Dead community treats Valve and L4D as some kind of god-like creation that could do nothing wrong while TRS and Back 4 Blood are treated like absolute trash and have no redeeming qualities, all because TRS made the decision to not just copy and paste the Left 4 Dead gameplay loop into their new game.
Back 4 Blood is not Left 4 Dead. Stop treating it like it is.
I stopped Aiming Down Sights in B4B at around 250 hours and never looked back, even without aim cards, but it limits which weapons I tend to use because the ones without decent accuracy hipfire are worthless to me. At which point, why even have them in the game. I think L4D is just the summation of research and learning that was already done 15 years ago in game design. The developers backed then talked about how they had made a big open city environment and you collected money and bought upgrades and then scrapped that for the A to B route as it is obviously more engaging for most players.
When B4B launched, there were environmental modifiers that could literally make it possible to get turned around and lost all the time in the fog, the effect was great but hugely frustrating. Like most of how B4B is, a love letter to the parts of L4D that either never were, or were ultimately cut to make it more of an approachable arcade shooter.
The saddest part of B4Bs reception is how either completely daft people are, or that they never really played B4B when talking about it, because there is a straight up homage to the older campaigns of L4D 1 and some from 2 is some of the levels in the game. But people couldn't even be bothered to play B4B because they only know one thing for certain about it, it is hard, frustrating and not at all the easy to play, hard to master game design of L4D. B4B is very much part of the new age of grind grind grind, you need to power up to be good type of game design and only through lots of repetition do you build a solid understanding of what works, what doesn't and ultimately how fast and loose you can play from moment to moment, and in B4B there is far more hero closet camping than there ever was in L4D, and thats just the facts.
So yeah, as someone who has spent far too many could be productive hours playing video games in life, it came as no surprise that people ultimately failed to see the charm of B4B and went back to playing 15 year old games instead, one brings them joy, the other frustration, its a no brainer.
Doesn't matter if it's "fixed" now (it isn't) because people have already had their first experiences, and this game has left a bitter taste in their mouths. No one gets to expect players to come back after such ♥♥♥♥♥♥ experiences, and this is just 2 of many.
Frustrating, hard to master. difficult in of itself, there's a market for those kinds of co-operative shooters. B4B can't compete in it. People aren't failing to see anything, they're just avoiding disappointment and not wasting their money.
I could be a billionaire and buy B4B Deluxe easily, wouldn't make a dent in my finances, but it's like paying top dollar for mouldy bread, still a waste of money no matter how rich you are.
L4D is better, and it is old, meaning a game like B4B could easily take its place, if its developers actually gave a ♥♥♥♥ and made it good. Some people care more for B4B than TRS ever did, most people clearly aren't inclined to do the same.
Are the actual players in this game stupid? Yes, lots of them. Ignoring mechanics and ramboing through a horde with no damage getting shredded even on Recruit. In that sense B4B got rather unlucky, the online experience got badly affected by players like this. Way more daft players in this game than any other. It's been a weird divide at least for me; you either get the equivalent of a high lobotomized tortoise, or you get someone who's so good they can carry nearly every map by themselves. In-betweens were very scarce for me.
not to mention, the knuckleheads will kick anyone who doesn't follow THEIR rules, or makes one teeny-tiny mistake.

It is good that in L4D2 you can dramatically change your game and its setting via mods, making your own server technically immune to trolls and griefers.
I'm not planning on playing on officials anymore. And if I hit a local, if at least friendly fire isn't off, I instaleave. Creatin' runs of the L4D1 & L4D2 chapters from time 2 time. Just coop.
Recently I found out B4B has a glitch, that might happen 2 enable kick voting due to 'friendly fire' even tho there's no such, but s.o. is hanging on a ledge around...rare though.
Probably the biggest killer is the lack of a workshop. As much as I love Left 4 Dead 2 I can safely say if not for the workshop I would not have as many hours in the game as I do nor would it still be as popular as it is today. Had they allowed Back 4 Blood to have a workshop with modders given just as much freedom, if not more so, as those in the Left 4 Dead 2 community Back 4 Blood would be in a much healthier state than it is now.
Unfortunately, those in charge wanted Back 4 Blood to be like many games in having a cash shop in game which would not have made a profit if modding was allowed.
Regardless, B4B is a good game, and it's something fun to pick up on a sale with your friends or solo, L4D2 is too. Though i can't lie, whenever i replay l4d2, it doesn't take long before i get bored and uninstall again - granted it is old. My pc has basically no space so that's what i have to do currently. I plan on replaying b4b when i get bored of the games i have currently installed and look forward to enjoying it.
But it really does seem like the biggest fans, are simply disguised as the biggest haters.
I really thought you guys in here could be taken seriously.
