They're bad at the game and they can't out maneuver a still object on the ground.
They're also uninstalling because they couldn't even enjoy it on easy(Nightmare)
Then you better start hustleing act 5 for another few hours until this (apparently) random glitch here happens to you as well. As already said, OP isn't the only one with this issue. I've had them spawn under my feet 2-3 times in one campaign run. You might have gotten lucky, but that doesn't mean anyone else isn't having the issues.
It's okay OP, do not let those diehard fans of this game tell you anything else.
The whole beartrap-aspect is getting quite the negative feedback overall so you are not alone on this one.
Hope you find something better to play...which isn't going to be hard to find.
I've gone slow with my friend through act 5, shooting every trap, never stepped on an invisible one, or one under the terrain.
Never even seen this issue people are claiming in hives, where terrain is less level, actually the opposite I've seen a Jankily placed bear trap, kind of floating a few inches off the ground on one corner.
Knowing what I know about unreal engine, it's extremely simple to make sure that an object spawns on top of another walk-able surface, or not at all.
If the object detects any overlap of its collision mesh, with a walk-able mesh, it can be moved through set parameters, until it detects no collision from other walk-able mesh, and EVEN IF they did spawn under the ground, they wouldn't activate, as there is no collision of a player actor on the collision mesh of the trap.
It's simply a new trap type, that you are not used too yet.
