Maybe it's about time to actually upgrade rather than trying to use round-about ways to get around it.
The game was made to work on Windows 10. The Crossplay/Crossplatform features, were all made to work on Windows 10.
I am planning to buy new box when RTX 4000 series will be released just to avoid current speculative bubble prize. Nevertheless for this particular moment I have Windows 7 and I would like to get rid of this issue without upgrade hoping that if Beta could run (and many other games which theoretically needs DX12 support) then this should run too.
Anyone else is having this issue too on Windows 7?
Mess up with changing options in:
C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Back4Blood\Steam\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
and of course still with -dx11
I hope it will help Windows 7 users in case similar issue ;-)
anything in specific to change?
Having the same error too.
It is the Sharpening option causes immediate crash.
I have just also checked that the game has this option enabled by default just after clean install.
So in case of Windows 7 you have to manually disable this option before launching the game.
In the file:
C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Back4Blood\Steam\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini
change:
bCASSharpening=True
to:
bCASSharpening=False
This permanently solves the issue - @moderator please pin this post as the best answer.
Feel free to share your feedback if it helps ;-)
I was able to resolve it by changing all graphics settings to low...it turned out that my 5+ years old laptop just can't handle this game at higher graphical settings. It reduced the crashes from almost every game session to once in a couple hours of play time.
Still you can tune it up on your own to adjust to your preferences.
I can confirm it works for me on i7-4770k + GTX 1080 on Windows 7:

I hope it helps ;-)
I shared your previous solution in another thread and seemed to have resolved the fatal error crash for at least one more person, it sure helps!
Great, glad to hear that! :-)
Thank you for confirmation.
