An April Update
"Hey everyone! A little bit of an update if I may. Firstly thanks for sticking around, I know that we’ve been a little AWOL for a bit now and that has multiple reasons behind it, both personal and creative, I don’t think it’s important to go into all of them but long story short we’re back in most regards.

Straight of the bat, I’d like to say thank you to Rob for his time working on Summerford but at this point, he feels best to seek out new ventures. Summerford would not be what it is to date without him, and I look forward to following along with whatever he ends up doing next. You can keep up to date with Rob at @drwayward on Twitter. This means a bit of a role change here at Summerford so you’ll see more of Me (Dan) and a little bit more of Mrs Wifey (Sarah).

The game itself is going to undergo some changes to suit the direction that I think we want to take with it, and more important as a direct result of the feedback received thus far of which we are incredibly thankful for.

When we set out creating Summerford we had very limited goals and in turn, we allowed feature creep to come on board to the extent which impacted the game and our motivation to finish it. I feel like I can say 100 negative things about game development and about 5 positive things and that is a ratio that Sarah & myself want to change.

We both personally feel very emotionally attached to the world of Summerford and I know beyond the jank there is an experience that will be truly unique, We’d not be creating this game if we didn’t think that. Equally, we are a small Husband and wife team so we have to be realistic with our goals and intentions.

The overall storyline of Summerford is going to be tweaked - we started working on a game that deals with a virus impacting the English countryside and then 6 months after we started this game that became an unfortunate reality. I don’t believe that people will want to be playing a game that takes something so close to the heart so soon after the event. It has not been an enjoyable experience to be developing a game with such close to reality subject matter. I don’t want to spoil the storyline direction we’re taking yet but rest assured English/Countryside and strong female protagonist are still essential parts of what we’re doing.

We’re also adjusting how we want to release the game - we know that feedback can help shape the direction of the game and we also know that without that feedback we’d end up demotivated so with that in mind we’re aiming to release the game in Chapters. This will be much more attainable for us, and equally, I think much more reactive to the community. We’re going to target August for the release of the first chapter.

It’s been a tough year for us, and it’s been a tough year for everyone so I apologise if you’re were excited and keep getting bummed out by delays, and I apologise if you played what we’ve made to date and didn’t enjoy it. Summerford never was, and never will be a game that we push out until we’re happy.

It’s also is a rich environment and one that has a lot of stories to tell so I look forward to being able to share them with you. The best thing you can do to support us to engage with our tweets and join us in Discord.

Until the next update,
Daniel & Sarah x."

I'm sorry if COVID hurt you or your family. But to me the best type of stories are the ones that hit close to home. As it makes you think, about a very real what-if, and going down that rabbit hole. For me that is why I like the Resident Evil titles now, as bio-terrorism, is a true parallel to true terrorist attacks across the globe.
