The only thing that will not work is the leaderboards that are online, so if you care about that, you will need to be online and connected to Steam.
1. You are not involved in the "actual" development of the game other than owning the company that is doing the work. That would be acceptable if it was some giant corporation and development team of hundreds or thousands of people and I was asking a question about some minuscule feature only one specialized coder or coding team has the answer for, but in that scenario you also wouldn't be on Steam answering questions from potential customers, right?
2. You are part of the development team that works on say, the artwork, and has no real knowledge or concept about the coding, engine or the behind the scenes stuff other than making the games graphics pretty. That is totally fine, nothing wrong with that and not knowing about specific core features of the game. Again though, when you add the fact that you are co-founder to that option. You may not understand the coding or how to do it, but you should definitely know what the core game-play features are and how your game can be played, and without knowledge of how the game mechanics or engine work, definitely shouldn't be fielding questions to the public or media, "yourself", about the game. You need someone with knowledge of how the game works, what it's about, and how problems could be addressed if there are say "bugs" or inconsistencies. Based on the responses you have given so far, that needs to be someone else on your team at your company. Maybe a little harsh, but it's honest.
3. This one is the most critical and most damning. You simply don't care to stay informed about your own game. I sure hope its not this one. I would hope that a company co-founder would care enough to know as much about the product their company is producing. They may not completely understand how the product is made or all the processes involved with making it, but they should understand how it works when its assembled. My question was part of that information you should absolutely know. The how does it work part.
Regardless of which three it might be. All of this could have been easily and simply avoided, by just listing that the game has offline solo play in the page details. Something you should consider updating after this conversation. I appreciate a co-founder taking time to respond to my questions and wish your company and the project the best of luck. No matter what the reason is. Though I doubt you will give the reason why in response.
While you might think one of these options might be true. You would be surprised that I am SUPER involved in anything in the game. I am working closely with each member of the dev team. I am working closely with each of the Art team, Storytelling, UI/UX, Audio, etc.
And all of that for almost 10 years. This is mine and my partner baby and dream project which have dedicated thousands of hours...
BUT believe it or not, this question have never been asked because it might have been trivial and I have never wondered about it :-)
Anyway, I don't think that we can post that the game has solo offline play if there is a multiplayer mode option. But as you said - this is the common thing in the solo modes so people will probably assume that anyways.
