For instance there could be an ultra rare Regular chook with .001% chance to drop that wears a top hat. I mean theres not, but there also could be.
In all seriousness... Like Uncle Death here pointed out, isn't it a little more fun this way?
I think just what Uncle Death and I find fun in the game are probably different! I really enjoy collecting things so being able to know if I have a complete collection (or as much as I can get) is satisfying.
It could be an optional item that costs lots of in game money to get or DLC, that way for people who don't wanna know, they don't have to know.
Regardless though, it is your game at the end of the day. If you decide against it, no amount of cajoling will work so I'll leave it there :>
This isn't to discount this idea at all, its a good one. Its just one that would take more time than you might expect.
From a design perspective as well, we would just like to add that little bit of mystery to the game... a treasure hunt as we sprinkle content out whenever we can. If this was something players really really wanted and down the track we could justify putting the time into it, we could look at it then.
The collecting aspect of this game is what appealed to me most about it, but no point in collecting if you never know how complete that collection is. :)
Your loss, i guess.
For what it's worth, I'd vastly prefer a catalogue over new events, games, or kinds of chooks. Improve what you have before branching out, imo!
Regardless, go for it. No ones stopping you.
