No keys in known places

This is my 4th full run through of this game. In this run I cannot find keys where they should be. I just finished getting the monster into the wood box ( after at least 8 tries)and then opened the box that he was guarding and it was empty!!!!. Also the closet key is not on the bedside table in upstairs bedroom and the box key is not on the shelf in the room before the kitchen. I also have only been able to find 1 protection talisman where I know I was able to find more in past runs. I am playing on Dread mode. What the heck is going on here?????

Late answer. But there's a lilbit of randomness within the game. Not too much, there's limited amount of spawn locations. But the amount of spawn locations is twice higher than the amount of items. So here we go - a lilbit of randomness

thanks for your answer. Unfortunately without finding any of the above keys there is no way for me to progress and no places to look that I haven't already checked. Sometime I will start a new game again because I love this game so much.

Can you tell me about this stuff with "getting monster into the wood box"?

In the attic there is a maze of like wooden fences. You have to go to the other side and along to the end to find a box with an advancing key. In order to do this you must lure a monster to a box which has 2 doors in it. You have to do this in the dark because the monster reacts to light. So once you lure him to the box you have to quickly close the doors so that you can safely move along to get to the box with the key. When I do this I get to the box and unfortunately there is no key inside so I can't progress
