I find FH more "chill", less complex, and it just released so there are some balance issues, some of which CAN make you throw random items around your place out of rage :) But it's a nice "little" game to play, goes well with your morning coffee. And I like the art :)
If you look for mod suport, slay the spire has countless.
But i am pretty bad at Fate Hunter, while i cleared StS already a lot of times, so i am probably not realy fair.
STS just does not do it for me artwise. I am currently looking at Fate Hunters, Trials Of Fire (EA) and Nowhere Prophet.
The AI of NP got panned a bit so I am less enthused about getting it. I really like the idea behind TOF but it is still EA. So I am currently looking at Fate Hunters.
Not sure what to get at the moment. If you purchase FH, it would be great if you could give your thoughts on it.
Goodluck, hope your choice meets your expectations.
A complete different card game is Overdungeon, its pretty fast paced since its not turn based it is still EA too.
The thing i realy hate in Fate hunter is that you will be punished for getting Treasures, since they stay in you deck and are often useless or are gone after use.
The art of Fate Hunters is to most (me included) much better, but Slay the Spire has the advantage of having animations and some audio barks for some enemies.
I'd say the biggest difference, and the one that really changes the way the games feel compared to each other is how encounters function.
In Slay the Spire, you have a complete map of all the encounters you'll be, well, encountering along your chosen path. Meanwhile Fate Hunters spring cross roads at you, seemingly at random (which makes it way harder to figure out if you should hold on to money that clog up your deck or not), That combined with enemies that feel more or less lifeless as they all are just static images mostly with some variation of "hit you and/or do a thing, makes Slay the Spire feel more like an rpg with a sweet puzzle to solve than the "press next room and see what happens" approach of Fate Hunters.
But since we are on the Fate Hunters page, i should say the game is still good, it's got a nice pacing to it, the music and atmosphere are build extremely well and not being limited by a mana system makes "going off" way more likely and fun. Slay the Spire is hyped for a reason, But Fate Hunters is a very good alternative if the price point matters or you get tired of other games in the genre.
Take me, for instance. I've put 200 hours into StS. Is it better than FH? Yup. Especially right now, when StS has three years of development time while FH only has about 1.
However... I've put 200 hours into StS. I'm bored of it. When you're in the same situation as me, you look for new entertainment.
Fate Hunters. Hearthstone Dungeon Runs. Dice Warrior. Etc.
StS might be better, but it's likely you'll get bored of it. What then? I like a huge variety of games. I think FH is a really excellent second or third place pick, with maybe some competition from Dream Quest (which makes my eyes bleed) or a game like Dice Warrior (with a godawful translation) or even Blood Card, which has its own fun mechanics.
StS, FH, and Blood Card are three very different machines. I play all of them. Unless you just don't have a lot of money to spend, why not follow my example and support all three indie developers?
