Good or bad?
This game has a really high review score on most platforms, but is it actually good?

I tried playing through a bit of it my PS5 with a friend, and alone, and the pacing was weird, the combat didn't feel normal, and the camera was making me nauseous. The user interface was also unexpectedly unintuitive. Most of the NPCs you talk to make it seem like this game is for children, but what child is going to understand how to play a game like this, with a user interface complicated and so bloated with text that it deters even me?

A lot of the locations are also full of duplicates of NPCs, which is almost immediately apparent, and the only thing I'm really looking for is the spot where I can buy new characters and have a fun time.

I was a huge fan of the Lego Star Wars from 2009, but something about this game feels very wrong in comparison.

Am I getting a bad impression of this game because I'm doing something wrong, or is there really something wrong with it? The visuals are mostly fine, but it feels like it's missing something crucial. My friend said that he remembered the old games where you'd go around levels and build things, but to him this felt like moving through film sets, disassembling the sets for studs, and laxadasically killing enemies. I have to admit, I was able to kill most of the enemies extremely easily, even entire swarms, which felt a bit strange.

I think only you can answer that question but my initial impressions weren't good and I largely agree with you. I've played a couple of Lego games before, a Hobbit/LOTR's one and a Marvel one (I forget which) and quite enjoyed them but this one seemed like a mess, the menu/ UI in particular but the overall feel, too. This aside, they really are for children.

It's free on Epic at the moment, if you didn't realise, which is where I got it but I think I've given up on it after the first level.

It's different from your typical lego game, but it's good. It's 80% open world/ free roam with about 20% of it being the levels. There's a lot to do throughout the different planets you can travel to.

Thanks, I will give it another hour and see if it clicks.

You can also just play the storyline, mostly ignoring the open world sidemissions/puzzles/collecting+upgrade stuff, which is what i do.
I´m through Episode 1-8 now, missing only Episode 9 to finish the Story and i am currently at around 18 Hours playtime.
So, you can say each Episode takes about 1-2 hours if you just want to play the story.

That way it is quite fun to play.
I would not have fun doing sidemissions/puzzles/collecting+upgrade stuff in this game. That feels like a chore to do.
But i find the recreation of the films is quite nicely done with lots of humor.
At least for a one time playthrough, maybe with a friend or kids.

Because you can ignore the interface entirely and fool around and enjoy it just fine. You're thinking about it too hard.

Wow, so after 15 years, the series feels a little different than before? Did you really expect it to be the same?

Your friend is misremembering because smashing sets and rebuilding them and killing easy enemies with no effort has been the core gameplay in the series this entire time.

I appreciate your input, but we decided the game was not for us. We simply don't enjoy it like we enjoyed the game we played before. It doesn't have the same spark, at least for us it doesn't.
Your memory of the old games seems off. Enemies have always been very easy to kill since the first game in the series. These games have always been very casual friendly. I just played one of the old ones on my Xbox last night. Also, you complain about the camera, but the old games had fixed cameras that had issues with annoying enemies shooting you from off screen, and you had no way of adjusting to see them. This game fixes that, and improves the combat by leaps and bounds even if it's still easy overall. I do agree about the UI however. It's kind of a mess in this game.

Makes sense. People change as do tastes. But I feel its the player that is different here...the gameplay is mostly the same. A lot of people blame a game for changing when it was actually their own tastes that changed and they just don't realize it.
game good

It's actually great, but i feel like you are taking this game waay too seriously. It's not JUST for children, it's a great game for playing with family or to fun around with a friend. Just chill, disable your brain and have fun

its okay, focus is too much on collecting than anything else. Hate swapping through 100 characters every 5 minutes to get stuff so I gave up and just plowed through the short story

You don't need to swap through every character the game has. You can bind 8 chars for use in every possible situation and swap between them using left and right d-pad
