That is something different. Sounds like your save file has been corrupted. Hopefully you have been backing up your save file folder to your D: drive after every session. The Cloud Save feature in Steam will not save you from something like this.
I am constantly bringing this up on this forum because some of the hard crashes with this game can corrupt the active save file, and without an independent backup, recovery is pretty much impossible unless you happen to have a "recent" full backup of the drive where the save file is located.
