Their very existence is exasperating. My Starwars Blueray collection basically states it perfectly: "The complete saga". It's inferior in every way and is actually rightfully considered Anti- Star Wars something which the Prequels aren't even close. Just the thought of subjecting myself to this utter failure is exhausting. It only gets worse the more you go into detail over time and the more you know about legends and the old canon.
That's why every single new, successful part is super close to the originals or so well written that everything around it is swept aside more than the boring side story in “I'm a spider, so what?” the best the new episode can deliver is a super well-written children's series called Star Wars Resistance. Every time, you're reminded that your favorite movies are just a playground for writers who don't know how to make a reasonably consistent story work or how to write great characters.
Worst of all it's already there, the Old Republic in Legends is amazing and insane and could be the next Star Wars if you just polish it up a bit. They don't even understand what makes ships like the Harrower or the Imperial class so great. I could go on for hours, though, and all of this is the manifestation of the new canon, it's the problem that plagues Star Wars. There have always been bad decisions, weird things like in comics or storylines, but it's never been this horrible and messed up.
I don't want to be reminded of all this every time I want to enjoy the game. It is not enough not to play them, their existence is the problem.
That's why tons of in-depth role-playing books were published with the first movie, because kids "their main audience" read those back then, right?
Correct, but who asked? Did I ask if anyone asked? ... Who asked?
I feel this is a bit of an overreaction given how little of the levels are about actual plot. But replaying Rise of Skywalker did remind me of how absolutely f***ing stupid that movie is. I'd forgotten some of the more idiotic details and this game reminded me. JJ Abrams is a hack.
>bro its space wizard movies for children, i think you're taking it a bit too seriously
A bit of a problem with Star Wars fans in general. Some kind of don't get that it's a series for kids.
I feel the same as you - but that's the reason why I never would consider buying the Skywalker Saga. Why did you? You should have known what this is about... ;)
No, sorry to disagree. I think at the moment this is a problem with Star Wars creators. They are the ones that do not get it's a series for kids - accoring to George Lucas boys actually. Most old school fans would love to just get that space wizard movies for children from that galaxy far far away. But instead we get all this stuff for "modern audiences". When I started watching Star Wars as a kid I never felt the need to be seen or represented. And I never wondered whether Luke identifies as "they/them" or not. It just did not matter. I was a twelve year old kid and did not know or care about modern identity politics or that way of thinking. All I cared about was seeing those people with their spaceships having cool adventures. Today it seems like politics its all they ever care about. Showing it to the "patriarchy". And this in a film series that has always been very inclusive and the bad guys actually being the notorious old white dudes. Wasn't that messaging enough? But what we lost since then is the adventure, the magic, the exploration, the wonder... Pity. But it's not my millions they're burning over at Disney. ;)
