Problems targeting in space combat?
So I finished Episode 1 but I had an awful time trying to target the other ships and it was even worse in free play mode. In 15 minutes I only manged to kill 1 ship? Am I just that bad or am I doing something wrong lol.

I've had some luck dodging left or right to get a second to point the ship

Hoping you noticed the little white circle they put near a ship you're targeting? If not, that's your aim point for deflection shooting. Most ships blow up with just a few blasts, presuming you're close enough to them and not shooting from beyond weapons range.

There's a bug that makes that little circle and the entire aiming reticule not work, making you have to free aim. The only time I've seen it happen is in freeplay.

Ick. Haven't run into that, but I can see where that would be problematic given the tight FOV not letting you get more than a brief glance at them as they go by.
If your having too much trouble look in the gameplay settings for the aim assist options.

Flight combat is frustratingly difficult without aim assist.

Interestingly, at least for me, was that in free-play space battles the reticle would disappear if I was fighting someone with a pilot that would be considered friendly/neutral by that faction.

Once I swapped to a pilot that would be considered an enemy the reticle returned.

for me no reticle == you're too far away. Lasers in this game have limited range. Best test is on kyber/stud comet - no way to miss that one.

Ah ok you guys hit the nail on the head. I remember during story mode I had the reticle but in free it wasn't there anymore. No wonder i can't hit anything lol. I'll try again tonight thanks for the info.

Make sure you have the correct pilot. The game does distinguish between good and evil characters.

Yup I'll check that as well thanks so much.

I found it best to set flight sensitivity all the way up, for mouse (trackball in my case). But if you are on controller, then yeah probably aim assist.

Sometimes it may make sense to boost away from the enemies for a bit to put some distance between you. Then when you turn to fight again, they will be further away, and often heading directly toward you for easy shots.
So for me I have actually experimented around this, cause it only seems t happen with a certain cargo mission. I am still having some issues with it, but in free space I have the boxes and the white circle. but when doing "Hoth and Bothered" for some reason on the first stop, the aim mechanic stops working. Anyone got a solution for it?
