You haven't provided any details or information on what kind of system you are running etc, so based on that, here is one suggestion that may work. But this is more of a fix for random crashing and freezing in the game once you are up and running. If you haven't performed this modification to the game's EXE then it is worth a try.
====
Locate the LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga folder on your PC using the "Browse Local Files" option in Steam. Locate the actual EXE which will have DX11 in the title.
Right click on the application .exe and choose Properties/Compatibility.
Then check/turn on the following TWO options:
Disable Full Screen Optimizations
Run as Administrator
APPLY and Exit.
Like I said above... This often fixes a lot of the random crashing/freezing, but not all. There are still plenty of areas in the game that can crash to desktop with no current workaround.
In regards to the game refusing to launch, this is a much more difficult issue to help resolve from a distance. I suspect it is related to your specific PC hardware settings and components, but again, no way to diagnose such a wide ranging issue from afar.
This thread for example:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/920210/discussions/0/3274690571065715480/
You haven't moved to the COMPATIBILITY section after right clicking on the EXE file and selecting PROPERTIES to bring up the small window with several option areas. There will be check boxes there under COMPATIBILITY that you can click on to turn them on. Once you have checked the two I instructed to check, click on APPLY and then exit back out and relaunch the game.
What platform are you on? Intel or AMD? CPU model and Motherboard brand and model? How much RAM?
Last but not least... If this EXE mod doesn't help, you might want to file an official bug report/tech support ticket with TT games on the WB website:
https://legogamessupport.wbgames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
They tend to respond within 24 hours, and while they will more than likely just log the report and not actually help get you up and running, you never know. Failing to Launch is one of the hardest issues to diagnose and resolve with a Steam game. The success rate via a support forum is very low.
More than likely, your best hope is that the long awaited patch fixes the problem for you. IF you just bought the game, you might want to consider getting a refund and coming back 6 months from now.
in my files (D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\LEGO Star Wars - The Skywalker Saga)
I see (LEGOSTARWARSSKYWALKERSAGA_DX11)
I see what you mean, and I now selected those two options. When running the game from my steam library it prompts me to run as administrator, but still does not launch. If I uninstall, get a refund, and then repurchase, will all my data be lost?
It is prompting you to Run as Admin? That is odd. I have both those items checked on my EXE and the game just launches normally without any prompt or something.
Your hardware all looks fine. If you can still get a refund, maybe go for it right now till the patch comes out.
To backup your current progress go to this folder location:
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGO Star Wars – The Skywalker Saga\SAVEDGAMES\
Locate the folder that has a long string of numbers as the name. (That is your Steam account number) Drag that entire folder into a backup folder on another drive and label the backup folder something you will remember for future reference. DON'T rename the actual save folder with the numbers for a name! Leave that alone.
Then you can uninstall the game if you get your refund, and if or when you buy the game again, you can drop that backup folder back into the above game save directory location and have all your progress from now back in your game.
If that directory I listed above is not there, or is empty then you are SOL unfortunately.
Not much else you can do but wait for the patch like everyone else. More and more people are running up against some kind of game breaking issue as they get deeper into the game, which is why there is more and more players in here complaining about the patch being so late in coming out.
