I believe the game is going to be a retelling of all the nine films, with speech from the characters and story included. There are currently 9 star wars films in the main saga, 1-9 in order would work if you were to fully get invested into the story. There are also "star wars stories" such as rouge one and solo, up to your choosing, (along with much of the expanded universe and TV-shows as well.) The game might include a lot of funny humor and jokes, but ultimately will tell the story as you play.

From memory, the original LEGO Star Wars games are the only game that is vivid to me being unboxed at Christmas. It also was the first game my girlfriend has ever played, now that she has gotten better at games.. I'm ready to see if she is good enough to handle the parkouring on the Anakin vs Obi fight this time around LOL

Really, you could skip the sequels if you wanted to. You truly wouldn't be missing much.

Well well well, first timer. If you enjoy sci-fi, I envy your first timer position and would swap with you instantly. Although 9 (or 11) movies is plenty to go through and you might find it overwhelming. I'd push myself through it.

It's not really a question of should you watch the films (I mean duh..), but in what order, that is the real question here. And people's opinions differ in this.

Solo and Rogue One are optional, and if you want to watch all 11 movies, I'd start with those, to set up the background stories.
Then start off with the oldest released movies - episode IV, then episode V which ends on a cliffhanger.
Then let's keep that cliffhanger and go back to the "roots" to explain what led to this - episode I, then II, then III. Then episode VI. And then just suffer through episodes VII, VIII and IX.
So, got it?
