Hated it in Lego Batman 2 and LotR...missed the days in Complete Saga and Indiana Jones where the lego people made funny charades to tell the story instead of hearing professional cinematic voice-overs come from them. It never worked, cringey, and kept me away from buying any other Lego game

looking at a video the Force Awakens game had voice acting but all the comedy was visual. The script was pretty much just the move but legos.

I heard that the developers were thinking about the possibility of switching between the two options for voice acting (human speech and "LEGO acting").
Perhaps the information is not reliable. Or a surprise awaits us.

Seems to me like the voice acting has, at the very least, taken a backseat compared to many of the recent LEGO games. I wouldn't be surprised if this is in turn because they made two sets of cutscenes (alongside some sort of ingame setting), one with voice acting and one without, and lessened the extent of the voice acting to compensate with the workload. That's just a guess, though.

If voice acting cannot be disabled, I am definitely not looking forward to the inevitably subpar voicework from whatever impersonators they get for those passed such as Carrie Fisher, or those not interested in revising their roles (Jarjar's VA, probably). And that's only scratching the surface of cast that won't be available, especially when it comes to the original trilogy.

It is just jarring because you see cartoony toys doing goofy antics with professional ultra-serious voice acting...it ruined LotR for me...especially the Boromir death scene

Bad news for you, there is voice acting, doesn't mean the overall game is going to be bad though.
